« on: June 25, 2005, 05:48:28 AM »

I need to find the paint codes for both of my 04 SEEG's one is B/B and the other is O/B. I had a little mishape in the trailer on the way to Myrtle and I need to get both of them repaired. Thanks for the help.

Sorry to hear about a double SEEG trailer wreck.  Did both of them get loose in the trailer?  I'll be at the HD shop doing a little work on my scoot today and will ask the service manager if he can give me the codes.  I need to order some "jsut in case" touch up for my Orange/Black also.

BLM I had just picked up the black and blue eagle on the way to Myrtle. The pingle wheel chock it was sitting in broke a foot pin and the front wheel got loose. It layed over on the orange eagle. The orange bike got minor damage to the outer fairing but the black eagle got the inner and outer and the left saddle bag and lid. I was so upset I didn't sleep the first night at the beach. Lucky for me the alcohol factor kicked in and some how I forgot all about it, TILL I GOT HOME!!!!! Oh well I just need to get both reparied this week. Thanks for any help you guys and girls can give me.

BTW I think I have found a painter that has already matched the orange it's the starlite black that is the problem. All the paint codes would be a plus for all of us.

I read, early on....right after the release of the Blue and Black, that the starlight black is a multi-step process that begin with laying down a coat of the cobalt blue and then spraying the black over it.  Don't remember which article that was, just remember thinking "damn, that might be a hard job to match up".  At night time, depending on how the light is hitting it, it almost looks like a deep purple rather than black.

Good luck with it.....let us know how it turns out.

JC you are right from what we can tell. It is a layer of blue with cobalt blue over it then the black. The black may be a candy color and is transparent. I know it is going to be a job. Still need some info if anyone can help. Thanks

Thanks Shovelhead. I didn't think the paint was available to the public. I was told at one time you could only get the touch up kit. I guess I will try the dealer on Monday.

Hey DC!  We meet again...I don't have the paint "code" but I did post the paint "formula" for Starlight Black for anyone who is interested.  The formula lists all the component parts and percentages for the paint.  Since I'm computer illiterate, I can only tell you to go to all my postings and check out #25 (4/11/05). You'll find the paint formula there.  I don't know what all the numbers mean, but it was a dead-on match!  I had fairing mirrors painted to match the bike and they're perfect.  According to the guy who mixed the paint for me, Starlight Black is not a two stage color.  At the time I thought it had to be, but the color match came out great shot simply over gray primer.  Hope the info helps and let me know the results.  PJ

PJ, here is what you'd posted before:

....I have no idea what this means, but here's the paint formula for Starlight Black as my body shop guy provided:   DBD Starlight Black NX (PPG) (I think this is the type of paint).  This is  the "formula" that follows:
                                                                 Dox I

                          Parts                     Cumulative
DMD      649       100.9                    100.9
DMD    1683       126.2                     227.1
DMD    1605       133.0                     360.1
DMD      646           3.5                     363.6
DMD        92           0.9                     364.5
DMD    1689        141.8                    506.3

thanks twolane...I think the columns got out of whack, but someone who knows about paint should be able to decipher.  By the way, my paint guy is having a heck of a time matching the dark candy cherry which is two stage paint.  I think you had asked me about getting fairing mirrors painted when I get mine done. I'll keep you posted.  PJ

PJ nad Don I can't thank you guys enough. I really thought this was going to be a very large pain in my back side. I will get this to him tomorrow.

PPG is a brand of paint the DMD is the product added to the formula when mixing, the parts means grams (I think)or at least weight and the cumulative is the total weight as you are mixing. By looking at the cumulative number if it doesn't match when you add a product then you have goofed and need to start over.

Not to be a pain but does anyone have the paint code for the orange? I need that one too. Thanks

Good luck on the match Dawg.  All the thanks go to PJ though because he came up with all the info.  All I did was remember the old post and cut and paste it back here.

When you get her done be sure and post how well it worked so anyone later on will know how well the mix worked.  [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Don my painter is mixing the paint this morning ( he said first thing) I hope he sprays the body work today. As soon as I get in tonight I'll let everyone know. He was in the local tiki bar Saturday night up here in the mountains and ran into the PPG regional saleman. This guy said he knew the salesman that was tied directly into the final assembly plant at York.  He is going to try to talk to him this week and see if he can help out with some of the other colors. If I can get some info I will post it for everyone.

Customryder he said it was a good match. He had not sprayed it when I talked to him but he had already mixed the color. If it won't work send me a PM and I will call you. Also do you have something for the orange? I need a quart of that also. Thanks

DC, no orange but i can match it by hand, if need be.... look close at his match it has a purple tint with blue pearl flakes. i have about a pint left from when i painted the 05 lowers. if you need it let me know,  it was a pain to match. i mixed it my hand, no formula that i found matched.  Thanks Jeff
