Question about the recall
« on: August 19, 2008, 03:46:49 PM »

I have the 08 SERK with 2700 miles. No leaks at this time. I just received both
letters in the mail. 1 for the fuel filter and the other for the head gasket and
a couple of other things. My question is : shoul I have wait until I have an actual
problem with it leaking or just go ahead and have them perform the work?
Just like to get an input from you folks...............thanks

I would get the fuel filter serviced immediately as it could cause a safety issue...  The head gaskets are your preference...you have up to two years.  You could wait for a leak to occur or simply wait for a convienent time.

I would agree, if you don't have any leaks now, don't lose any riding time over this.  Wait and have it done over the winter.

Hey guys,
What's the deal with the fuel filter? I have a 2008 FLHRSE4. I have about 700 miles on it. I got the letter about the gaskets, crankcase center bolt, and Automatic Compression Releases, but nothing about the fuel filter.
And what bolt are they talking about? The one in between the bases of the cylinders? What could be wrong with that?
As for the gaskets and ACR'S, they ain't ripping my top end off unless it's leaking!
I'm waiting untill July of 2010!!!

Thanks!

Well I took the bike in this week to have the fuel filter replaced. I was hearing what sounded like a vacuum leak
when the motor was running. There were no performance issues other than it took more cranks than usual
to start the motor. I had them go ahead and and replace the gaskets and acr. They got all the work done in
a day. The bike no longer makes the hissing sound and it starts right up now. All I hope is that the gasket
fix takes care of any future wannabe leaks. I have a little over 4k on the bike now and the only problems
to date has been a bad throttle switch kicking out codes and the hiss from the fuel filter. I am, to say the
least extremely happy with bike. I'm switching from redline 20/50 in the motor to amsoil 20/50 and I'm keeping
the redline MTL and HD shock proof in the primary and tranny. Thanks everyone for your inputs

I'm not to sure about waiting for any recall to get any fixed IMO. Living in Texas, winters are somewhat ridable. So I was near my 5,000 mile service got both done. Took 2 1/2 days to complete but it was done. Remember to base your service time when the dealer has the parts on hand; might have to wait tell they arrive too!

agreed,

It just worked out for me to get the service done and recall at the same time. Just make sure the dealer has the parts on hand mine did not, but they got there in time for my appointment; it all worked out. What ever decision is made ride on dude!!!!!

All you have to do is call the dealer and speak to the service manager and he'll set you up at your convience.  Just be sure they have the kits in stock.
