CVO SALES & YOU
« on: June 27, 2005, 09:14:56 PM »

QUESTION FOR ALL CVO OWNERS when you purchased your cvo - how many cvo's of your identical model & color did you expect to have sold in your area - hometown.

did you expect the sales of that specific color/model be limited - or is 3 like yours a problem/fustrating  - how about 5 - how about 7 - just like yours (outside of any mods folks) pertaining to the price you paid

For Charlotte the #'s were

1 Teal
3 Red, originally 2 but changed to 3
1 Yellow, originally 2 but changed to 1

I got the #2 Red
But actually #1 and #2 were sold so they traded a Yellow for a #3 Red for me.
Then #1 Red came in and the guy couldn't take it, so #2 Red guy took #1 and I got #2.
And----------------> the box it came in!

Our local dealer had 3 of each color, I have yet to see another red, or any other color, SEEG on the road. I have seen them in the service dept. That's a good thing but i'm sure its just a matter time since we have about 10 dealerships within about a 75 mile radius. I'm not sure what allocation the other shops got [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

Local dealer here got three B/B and three O/B 2004s.  Not sure about the 2005s.  I got the first B/B and the other two went to Iowa.  I never see another B/B SEEG around town. [smiley=beerchug.gif]

Fortunately I have the only Orange and Black that is in my town. There was only one ordered originally and it was taken out of state and I got mine by having the dealer switch a Blue and Black that wasn't spoken for yet over to O & B.  [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif]
As for the other Black and Blue 04's I think there were only two sold....Spyder can chime in on that one seeing as how he has on of those two that I know of.
As for the 05 SEEG's I don't know the numbers.....Chris

I suppose seeing a lot of the same thing might get annoying.  But, basically, I could've cared less.  Got it because I liked it.  If a lot of other people got the same thing that just means they agreed that I had good taste in bikes.

My local dealer had [smiley=cherry.gif] [smiley=cherry.gif],  [smiley=jalapeno.gif] [smiley=jalapeno.gif],  [smiley=banana.gif] [smiley=banana.gif].  I saw  [smiley=cherry.gif] before picked up,   [smiley=jalapeno.gif] before picked up and both  [smiley=banana.gif] [smiley=banana.gif].  All but  [smiley=banana.gif], never hit the floor.
The  [smiley=banana.gif]that hit the floor was bought by Ironworker2k.
Couldn't grab a  [smiley=jalapeno.gif] in town, in fact I traveled to So. Cal to bring back my teal.

Houston Texas has about 6 harley shops in a 100 mile radius. The only Seegs that I have seen in the area are the ones that were selling in the dealerships. One 2004 orange and black that I almost bought  and one yellow and silver at the dealership that I bought mine at. I have seen quite a few at the rallies that I have been to. [smiley=laugh.gif]

The uniqueness is obviously one of the attractions of a custom/limited edition.  We all want our scooter to be a 'stand-out' in the crowd.  Most dealers of any size/volume got 3 of ea. color if they wanted that allocation or swopped out one color for others that customers such as 103BAGR wanted.........at first you see yourself coming and going but as time passes they begin to become less obvious.  Why I don''t know....maybe end up sitting in garages or wrecked or who knows.  Some people are out riding more and others...????  Anyway, of the 4 B/B SEEGs sold in my home town, I very seldom see another one after a 1 1/2 years.  That's fine w/ me!   Har!    [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif]   spyder

Shovelhead, I have met a couple of folks now at an event who were actually perturbed that a bike like theirs - be it perhaps a different shade, but still a CVO SEEG, would pull up beside them. At Patriot HD's open house this spring, three of us arranged to meet and a fourth from this site was there and we coincidentally met in a small parking lot all were parked next to a fifth. Well when he came out to get on his bike, his annoyance at not having a rare bike was obvious. He was actually just a shade south of being rude about it.

The four of the rest of us thought it was neat that we could all love the same bike and we cheered each other on on the choices of mods we had each made. I wish everyone could be so lucky as to have a bike like mine. I could care less if all the bikes were the same, the ride that we have I would like all my friends to have too. We all know that our bikes are a whole lot more than a pretty paint job and a big engine. I want the whole world to experience this. It should, in my opinion, be how all bikes are made. It should be the standard and not rare. Now that I know about the ride difference, I have no intentions of ever having another.

Some of you here, heck I guess I do too, have other bikes in the garage that are not the CVOs. I love the look of our Road King, but if I were to choose which one I want to ride..... the CVO is leaving the garage and not the king.  And our king is the 95th anniversary, and after eight years we very seldom see a 95th of any kind of bike on the road.

So if thousands of CVOs get sold, that means that thousands of riders are riding the premium of HD bikes.  I did not buy my bike cause it was exclusive, I don't believe it is.

So tell us what are you really asking?  Are you sorry that you have neighbors with a bike like yours, or the same color as yours, or exactly what are you concerned about. I know you love how it rides.  [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

Honestly, prior to seeing my bike, I'd heard of SE bikes, but never the CVO division.

I literally lucked in to the club. I was just looking for a Harley that nobody has. Just didn't want to buy the same stuff you know? I'd originally eyed a '96 Bad Boy. But, it'd been sold before I could get back to get it. It's still my understanding that I own the smallest production run model of CVO. Given that, I was quite shocked to see another at a recent event, and then told by that owner that he'd seen 2 others in New England. One in Mass, and another in Ct.

So, that means, of the 450 (assuming they went half&half with the blue/blue) in the world, 3 of them are near me.

Can't complain about 3 similar bikes in a two-state radius. Plus, I've made some slight cosmetic changes that make mine look different enough to be uniquely mine.

However, I have yet to see either an FXR2, or FXR4 anywhere near Mass.

I saw a couple of SEEGs and SERKs in Laconia, and one SE Deuce.

I don't think seeing a similar bike is in any way a negative when it comes to the CVO. I think there are still so few, that it's more like a fun surprise to see another. As opposed to how common the "anniversary" models are.

I paid exactly what my bike listed for in '99...in March. So, I'm not really complaining. It was still cheaper than any new bike I'd have purchased with anything remotely similar in accessories. And with only 3500 miles in 5 years...barely ridden.

I personally asked last night for them to put it on the floor for sale

Shovel, I'm really sorry to hear that!  While I won't deny I like the fact that I seem to have the only B/B one in the vicinity, I also am not of the mindset of the guy that Mrs.We and the others ran into.  As witnessed by this site, I think for the most part there is a huge comeraderie among the CVO owners and I enjoy that part of it immensely.  I didn't buy the bike because I thought I'd be riding the only one around.  I bought it because I thought it was the neatest thing I'd ever seen (still think that way) and I loved the features such as the 103", painted inner-fairing, hydraulic clutch, paint scheme, etc. (still do).  I think it would take everyone on my block having one in order for any of that to change, and even then, that would probably just be the impetus I need to up the ante in the customizing department.

I guess what I am saying is, I simply love this bike for what it is, not what it isn't.

$30k will not get you a bike that no one else has. You are guaranteed to see your same bike from time to time. As for me, I could care less. I didn't buy the bike to stand out in a crowd. I bought it because it looked good and it had everything that I wanted on a bike. If someone needs to stand out in a crowd then they need to get all new tins and drop them off at their local paint shop. That will assure that you have a unique bike.

Some of the disatisfaction that  comes from a few of the owners is obviously due to HD overstating the CVO models and promoting the "custom" aspects of this line.  A custom bike they are not.  There isn't anything on the bike that is "one off" or can't be found in the HD catalog, with the exception of the "Screamin' Eagle" signature covers.  As I think everyone on  this site has learned, HD greatly overstates its' "horsepower" claims on the 103 and the bike rags are more than eager to promote the myth.  The uninformed buy into the HD hype, read the bogus test reports in mags like American Rider and throw up on  the dyno when they catch a first look at the numbers.

I think 103T hit it right on the head with accepting the bike "for what it is".  It's a nice off the shelf ride with many of the accessories installed that most people want.  For many of us who are interested in performance there's an additional 3-5k required to get it to run right and handle correctly.

In my opinion it's great ride unless you truly want a custom, performance machine and in that case you need to take the time, money and effort to build one.
