Had her out for a few hours today. Lots of highway and curves. And I gotta say, Tim is pretty spot on with his assessment! The bars are too narrow! But they're also too short. [hmmmmm, don't make your change too quickly....other than wider bars....the narrower bars can cause a lot of issues....if I were you consider making the change to the wider bars for about $60.00 and leave everything else alone and see if it will work] Great for drag racing and bar hopping, but not for rocking and rolling at speed!
But the bike as is, tracks like it's on rails! I'm still surprised at how responsive this stock suspension is. But not enough travel. Bike is very stiff over bumps, but that doesn't necessarily mean I've got bitubos back there either. I think I'll be persuing the taller AK-20 and bitubo combo, and raising the suspension at least 1"! I will enjoy watching this transformation.......raising the bike cuts against the "grain" but that's awesome to do it.....your talking about what $1,800.00 for these two options alone right?
Had the bike over 100 for the first time today. Surprisingly stable and felt good. Not sure I agree with Tim on the gearing. It's geared for highway. But in the stock engine configuration, it can't get out of it's own way below 3 grand! But above 3 grand, this cam ain't too bad. You feel it kick in over 3 grand and it pulls decent to redline! Is the cam within the bike still OEM? What's surprising to me about this statement Howie, is you are sitting at what 200 feet above sea level....and my bike has all the power I could imagine at 4,900 feet up to 11,000 feet.....you guys talk about "power" but when outside the mountain area states you all are running your bikes about 20% more power......shaking my head.....The gearing is perfect....lol....it's great for touring, it's great for climbing....but I do admit of course that I have a Crane Cams V~Thunder 3010. So perhaps my view on this is obviously slanted....I am of course not badgering you on this topic merely offering additional thoughts.....I ran a 95" S&S 570 cams, ported heads which I put in a 2003 Dyna Low Rider....it would literally shoot between your legs with the amount of torque it had, for that bike....so I "grasp" where you are headed....
Getting her to be quicker is my goal, not necessarily faster! awesome.....
But the bike is solid! It rides like a new bike. And like all the Evo's, it makes the TC, as some of us have maintained, sound like a pile of junk. Nothing but a smooth sounding engine with these Evo's! Them TC's are junk compared to the Evo! I am really excited for you to feel that positive about it so quickly....
And I won't build it radical, so I'll get it up to about 80-85 HP, keep CR under 10:1, and she'll hold together as well as a stocker, without having to whack it all the time like I do now! I thought it was agreed not over 9.5:1 LOL!!!! Just kiddin you!!!!! I didn't even take my twin cam over 9.5:1 compression lol....it's just not worth it ever.....in the long run....lol I know I know....lol....I am settin myself up for these comments....LOL don't make me bring in more photos....LOL
I'm extremely happy with the way she rides, and not many bikes look better in stock form.......
AWESOME!!!
