"am amazed at what they are getting for the stock 96" non cat head pipe on E-bay.

I have had two that I have been out bid, by alot on so far.  Both I have seen went for over 200, which is where I stop bidding."

Simple supply and demand - I'm not surprised. Now that the word is getting out and folks understand what they are getting. Also, IMO Harley did a great job on the new Touring line head pipes. I don't think aftermarket will be able to seriously outperform the stock head pipes (no cats) to justify the additional cost and looks. Again, this is only my opinion. I got a set for $125 and some folks told me I was nuts to pay that. Look where the prices are now..........

I hear from fuel moto here in Wisconsin that the Cat header and non Cat have shown no difference in performance numbers on the dyno. He assures me any HP change comes from fuel changes after the header is swapped out. Both tune identical. His California connection's say's the same. I'll post when I get more info. http://www.fuelmotousa.com/

Huh...

Wonder what Steve George at Fullsac has to say about that...

Seems to me, I have read at least two different reputable tuners who post on this site, say the cat is costing at least 5HP.......

All right, I've got another n00b HD owner question...

Does pretty much everyone swap out the stock exhaust from the get go? Am I going to be seriously disappointed when I hear my stock bike fired up? I don't want something that can be heard for miles... but I certainly don't want something that sounds like my Goldwing did.  :nixweiss:

Thanks for helping the new guy out!  :drink:

Steve George from Fullsac measured NO increase when removing the cat from a 96" bike.  He measured an 8HP increase when removing the cat on a 110". Both configurations included tuning changes to optimize the performance both with and without the cat.

I did the swap on my 110" and measured a 6HP increase using a Superflow 250 dyno. The increase was measured before any tuning changs were made to the map. (Same bike, same map, same day, same dyno)

Crusty, You will absolutely want to modify your exhaust after you hear it in stock configuration.

Roger that........we're seeing about the same numbers here also. The maps Steve has available seems to improve "driveability" somewhat, and reduce engine temps on warmer days.
(80 degrees here today)!

So it seems... lol

Guess I'll talk to the dealer my bike is getting delivered to and see if I can go with what seems to be the most popular choice, the fullsacs and no cat and a tune. Hopefully they can hook me up.

Crusty, I just had my dealer put on V&H Power Duals, Basic Slip-ons and a V&H Fuel Pack. Now I can't tell you what it sounds like yet. I'm currently in Kirkuk, Iraq. My buddy picked it up and said it sounds and runs awsome. I'm glad I went with this setup. I will have my son take some pictures and will try to get a video with sound.
I went with V&H because they have 4" diameter mufflers and with everything being V&H they have the settings for the bike. (no need for a $440 dyno)
If Reinhart had 4" mufflers, it would have been a tough choice.

Had the dealer do the set-up. It ran me $1,500.

I took delivery last weekend of my OB SERG and was really disappointed with the sound - At less than 300 miles the cat is coming off right away. I've found a stock header pipe from an 09 96" that I'll swap out - I gave a.$100 bucks which I think is fair. I'll be installing that over the weekend. The idea of drilling out the Cat is cost effective, but its too permanent- and if you ever want to swap it back to original- you're SOL. Vance & Hines offers a new 2-1-2 header system for the 09's & it looks good, but its pricey @ $590.

Now to on to slip on's.... Ive been looking for the right 4" cans for 3 months with few options: I see that Samson offers a new 4" can with a few end nice cap options and also  a true dual config for those out there who want the true dual- Cycle Shack offers 4 different 4" slip ons- no end cap options and the look is not great. So far I haven't seen any one talking about CycleShack anywhere on the CVO forum- how come ? My indi wrench tells me they perform very well. I also heard they make ( or made) the SE mufflers so maybe these might be worth looking at-   Rush was my second choice but they wont be bringing a 4" can-  I saw the Klock can but its pricey too, so does anyone out there have any other suggestions other than Cobra- BuB or Rinehart? I cant bring myself to drink the Bub/rinehart cool aid

Tuners: Has anyone got tried the new DJ PC5? I never liked the idea of SERT and being married to the stealer for tuning-

It depends what you like for sound.  Do you like it loud?  Do you want something with the nice low rumble, but not overly loud?  I think you will see throughout the forum that you will get an awful lot of recommendations for the Fullsac baffles.  You would be removing your baffles and putting these in your stock mufflers.  They offer a real nice sound, great performance, and you get the thrill when you crack the throttle, but you can still hear the stereo.  You spent $100 on the head pipes, and you will be out about $119 to $139 + shipping for the baffles and have a very inexpensive, very nice sounding, and very nice performing system. www.fullsac.com
