My first service
« on: September 12, 2008, 07:08:40 PM »

I just got my first service done and when I picked up my bike the service manager said "I guess someone called you about the scratch the mechanic put on you primary cover". I said no and then he told me about it and said they ordered a new one. In about a week I will have to take it back to get it put on. Even though I was a little upset he did tell me about it so it's not like I found it cleaning the bike and told them and I do not have to pay for anything.
I do have a question for you people, am I entitled to the keep the cover  they damaged or not?

Sorry to hear of this, but glad the dealer stepped up and did the right thing. As for keeping your old cover that'll be up to the dealer. You can ask for it and if they give it to you fine, if they say no just be thankful they were honest and replacing it. I don't think you would be "entitled" to it unless they want you to have it. :nixweiss:

Thanks Firedood that is what I'll do and I hope they give it to me.
TLR no I do not have to pay anything except gas to get there.
It is nice to have a dealer stand up and do the right thing.

The dealer is Barb's Harley in Collingswood Hts, New Jersey just across the river from Philly. With the exception of scratch I am very happy with this dealer.

Mark one up for an honest dealer and service department. I would have to think if the dealer is replacing the scratched cover with a new one he owns the scratched one.

My dealer dropped my bike without telling me. The front fender was dented with fresh metal showing where the paint chipped off. I wouldn't have noticed it till later if it wasn't for my buddy who drove me there to pick it up. The service manager apologized and got me a new one, but I'm sure he wouldn't have said anything unless I brought it up. Before that they dented my tank,  didn't catch it, then later wiped out both my antennas and crudely tried to straighten them. Then the issue of some teenager dry washing the bike before you pick it up.  :'(
I have purchased four new Harleys from dealers and have had bad experiences with all of them, so the last bike I bought used and have a great independent mechanic to service it when I don't have time to do it myself. There are just too many great bikes out there with  low miles to have to go though all that crap again, unless of course Willie comes out with a SERG touring model with a liquid cooled engine next year.  ;D  Doc

That is precisely why know one works on my bike but me.  The only good a warranty brings me is parts - not labor.  Dealerships are generally full of kids or have so much turnover you have no idea what skills exist - or don't exist.

Those of you who have independents like hd-dude in your back yard don't know how good you have it!
