Here's a "before" picture of the tail end of the header prior to ceramic coating.  By the way, I'm posting these pictures for comparison to the ones Chip posted of his ceramic coated headers.  Huge difference.  Really looking forward to getting mine done.

So, Renea and I were gathering up all my "take-offs," so we could get them loaded into the truck, head back home, and list them on eBay.  I'll post the links to the auctions in Third party later.  Anyway, a VERY familiar face walks through the door.  The Professor, himself!  Here's a picture of Bob Wood and Rod studying a course of action/path forward for my headwork..........yes those are my heads in this and earlier pictures

So, I got to spend about an hour learning from a motorsports legend today.  Got alot of great advice, and learned just how uninformed I am.  This guy is smart.  One of the nicest folks I've ever met.  Very down to earth, and extremely eager to share his knowledge and experience.  Renea and I had the honor of having lunch with Bob, Rod, Richard, and Rod's wife, Vicki at Luna's BBQ in Hanceville.

Here's one last shot of Bob next to a gutted Thumper.  Poor lighting in that room, and I'm no photography expert.

Got concerned when I read here that ceramic coating had a 6 week lead time out of NC, so I called Rod, and he was already in action.  He found that out as well, so he sent the headers to OK.  Should be back in about 10 days.  I didn't know that the chrome had to be stripped off before the ceramic was applied.  Wonder will D&D ship "raw" headers if asked instead of a finished set when someone intends to have the headers ceramic coated?
I'm expecting two sets of those Harley Goodies floorboard extenders before the work week is out, and will bring the chrome set down to Hanceville on Saturday along with a few K&N oil filters.  Rod doesn't stock those, so I'm gonna bring him at least three to get him through the initial runs and first 100 or so miles before I pick up the bike.  Anyway, Rod will install the chrome floorboard extenders on Thump, and I'll put the black set on the FLHR to give a little more room between the heat shield and the foot rest support.  Thump has a BHAF that has been beatin' the chit out of my right knee, so hopefully the extenders will provide relief and look better than the three washers on both supports on the right side of the bike.
Heads are being "decked," and having the valve seats redone this week.  10.8:1 CR w/.030 Cometic HGs.

Getting closer.  Really looking forward to having the green bike back home.   :2vrolijk_21:

Henry,
I noticed your headers have O2 sensor bungs.  Are you planning on going with a closed-loop wideband system, or just going to put plugs in?  :nixweiss:

Charlie,
I'm not a closed loop fan.  D&D shipped the headers with bung plugs.  Rod took 'em out prior to packing for shipment to HPC.  Once they come back, he'll reinstall the plugs.

I take it D&D doesn't sell headers without the bungs anymore?  I know V&H still sells pre-07 header pipes without the bungs.  I didn't think you were going to go with a closed-loop system, just thought it strange that your header pipes had the bungs on them when an 06 didn't use the sensors...thanks for the clarification.  :2vrolijk_21:

No idea, Charlie, but I imagine by now it keeps costs down to manufacture in bulk one way as opposed to two ways even with the added materiel cost.  Retooling means production shuts down during the retool process, and running two lines producing different versions of the same header wouldn't be cost effective.  Better to add bungs and plugs to every set and pass the cost onto the consumer than produce legacy equipment which may or may not sell.  V&H probably sells more systems than does D&D don't they?

JMHO.

I would venture to guess that they are the largest seller of aftermarket pipes,  :nixweiss: but I wouldn't bet my paycheck on that one.  Both of my rides have V&H on them.

Fightin' off a cold, flu, whatever.........probably from being hardheaded and riding the FLHR to work this week.  Decided to drive down to Hanceville and drop off some oil filters and the floorboard extenders.  Renea went to the range to hone her skills with a double action pistol.  I love it when she drives the ton truck.  Not many things are hotter than a Girl driving a diesel ton truck.  We left the house at the same time.
