Update.  The dealer says $3850 to fix it.  I have talked to the "other" drivers insurance company and have confirmed that they are not going to fight it and that if I want to I can rent a bike for the time it will take to fix mine.  I probably will not do that.  I do not want the stress that comes with getting used to a new bike for a couple of weeks of riding.

Yes, my alarm was going off and the lady said she thought she heard something but could not see anything so kept on backing up, pushing my bike over the asphalt leaving about 2 feet of gouge marks.

All in all, it could be much worse and my problems are small considering other possibilities. The point is, it can happen anytime and lets all be carefull out there, some drivers do not see or hear us.

It cost about $150 for a complete kit for wireless rear view camera and screen for cars.  It always scares me with the kids.  Unfortunately they can't always be repaired. :'(

Has anyone ever had somebody back into their car and say " I didn't see it "  ?

How the hell do you miss something 8 feet long, three feet wide and almost 4 feet high ?

And usually with highly polished bright paint and so covered in chome it's like the sun itself is shining from it.

If I ever need to off somebody, I'm just gonna blast away and tell the jury I was shootin target practice and didn't see the person

If the jury is made up of idiots like this SUV lady, I'm free and clear

Wow sorry your bike got messed up.

In Virginia a parking lot accident is considered unreportable unless it's on a municipal or government owned lot. You could total a car in a shopping center and no state report would be made. Only fatalities are investigated. Tickets can be written on private lots for reckless and arrests made for DUI. Parking tags for handicapped parking and fire lane violations only. Officers will help the drivers in accidents exchange information usually.
hunter is correct in that backup cameras are cheap insurance to protect people and property when backing a large vehicle. Consumer Reports tested blind spots on various trucks and SUVs and the Chevy Avalanche was one of the worst with a rear blindspot of 57 feet. It is due to a high rearend and the tailgate is actually taller then on the Silverado pickup.
I have owned two Avalanches and the first one had an aftermarket backup camera. The new one has a factory installed backup camera plus backup sensors. I would like to see them both standard on all vehicles.

I once had a girl run into  the back of my 4X4 Suburban which was stopped and the blinker was on to make a stop. We were about the only two vehicles on the road and she claimed she didn't know I was stopped???? No sign of drinking on her part...just stupid I guess? (I don't know if she was on the phone though.) I let it go since I had only a bent Harley Hitch cover and she tore up her whole front end. I figured she got the worst of it!

Glad that you were not on the bike! I am on the road in an elevated position(truck) nine hours a day, and the stupid crap that I witness people do in their cars is astounding! Driving has become secondary, and the cars have become entertainment centers. Witness the electonics,i-pod, televisions, GPS(do not know how people found their way home from work before this gizmo) and countless things stuck to the dash and windshield obstructing their vision. The damn phones are the worst! The cops should be able to smash them on the ground if the person was on it and caused an accident. When you get the bike fixed, add a little something to make yourself feel better, you deserve it! Be safe...

As someone once said, the concept of using a 6,000 lb. SUV to haul one 110 lb. woman, one 40 lb., and 1/2 oz. of nutmeg will ultimately be self-limiting...

When I hear the "I didn't see it" excuse usually I shut them up with the "good thing it wasn't a child then" response.

I regularly make "courtesy calls" to to the underwriters to advise of the added risk their client has placed them in.

More than once a "soccer Mom" has been told that they were going to be placed on a facility policy because they are not able to operate the vehicle properly.

I was out last night and parked up on a boulevard.... parking lot was jammed and it wasn't worth the risk to park in a spot with all the weekend warriors!

When I'm out in my 4 wheeler and am parking and see a bike, I try to get the spot in front, behind or even alongside it to try to shield it as I've been through this same thing and most insurance companies can be real busters towards we bikers. It happened 23 years ago and I came out of the store and there before my eyes despite my yelling and waving, crunch and grind. Bars and front forks twisted and scratched paint. No such thing as rentals and the ladies insurance company's customer service was rude and ignorant, which p*sst me off and I got nasty on the phone which made it worse. asking for her supervisor didn't help as he thought that it was probably my fault and I should apologize. My "good hands" agent told me (8 days later)that I should have called him, which I had tried to do 6 times ,leaving messages and getting no call back. It turned out that the lady's insurance co. didn't have a bike adjuster on payroll (they didn't cover bikes) and trying to contract one. At least this was the story I got from my guy. Finally got my company to submit the appraisal to her company, which was disputed, blah blah blah.. got my bike back on the road 32 days later. Hey Hoist- FT INS COs.
Thank God things have changed, glad you're ok and I think you have an amazing attitude.Best riding weather is yet to come.

Update.  The dealer got my bike together enough so it is safe to ride.  Nice to have it back.  The fairing and other body parts should be here in two more weeks.

I really enjoy Fall riding so I am glad it is not sitting in a shop waiting for parts.
