Mac or PC which are you?
« on: September 23, 2008, 11:40:33 PM »

Hey everyone,
Just bought a new Mac Pro dual Quad Processors (8)  10Gb Ram  320Gbdrive, and a 1Tb Drive, wow what a screamer and a dream.

I was a PC user for over 25 years and switched from a an old Apple II+ and an Apple IIe. Went to PC because I had a strong interest in CAD software. Used Cadkey software for the past 30 years with many upgrades along the way.
We (I) are now interested in starting a company editing video and wanted to use a program called Final Cut Suite. This is only avail on a Mac so that is why switched over.  I can say so far it has been a real challenge to learn a new program along with a new operating system. I will say the Apple sets up sooo much easier and so far no crashes as with the windows PC. Any way I would like to hear from others as to which they are using.

Ride safe.

I get the pleasure of using a Mac Pro at work now then for Publishing stuff. And you are right, they are screamers and the graphics don't get any better. I looked into buying a home system awhile back and after I got the cost together to replace some vital software i use and the Mac itself, I said no thanks... I guess if i didn't have two Harley's to blow my money on, I would probably have a Mac or two. It's too bad Apple monopolizes their computers and operating system. If Apples were in a competitive market like the PC, everyone would have an Apple for sure.

Made the change to Mac in '98 and have never looked back, except to wonder why I hadn't made the change much sooner.  Currently have 2 MacBook Pro's (2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo w/ 2Gigs Ram) and a similarly rigged iMac for a desktop workhorse. I also use an iPhone with the new push email thru mac.com and have found that I can leave the laptop at the office when I travel outside the country.  All the work data I need then stays on the server for easy use and no exposure to the new game the airport buckle police have of randomly wanting to inspect the hard drive.  Look ma, nothing on the HD but tunes!

I've noticed that several folks have wanted to make the change, but have not done so because of replacing MS software for a Mac version.  With the new "Boot Camp" free software from Mac, you can run MS junk software as if you were on a PC.  You simply boot up the Mac in the MS mode and get a chance to once again experience the MS software failures, crashes and blue screen of death without having to buy one.

I'm with BLM777. switched to mac 2 years ago and will never go back. On my second iMac, which unfortunately, locks up more than my first but still only once or twice a week and not 4-5 times a day.

Mac G at the house...The cpu fan is a little noisy sometimes when tunes aren't running, other than that it has been online 24/7 for about 3 years, the only restarts are for program updates...Nice machine, I'll buy another..

Ancient Dell gx240 PC for work but have a staff of IT folks whom are good at keeping them up.

MacBook Pro at home.  Had it about one month.  Not sure how I've made it this far without it.
Hate going to work and using this Dell.

Ok, I'll be the first odd guy out. I have PC's and wouldn't consider a Mac for business applications. Not that I think anything is wrong with Mac's, they are just not right for me. I have all of my PC's custom built to my specifications at a local computer shop using Intel Core2 Duo processors with 2.0GB of RAM and I have been happy with the performance and reliability.

Pure PC...work and home and don't foresee ever selling out to a Mac.

I switched to a MacBook Pro about 8 months ago. It has been a small challenge to "re-learn" the Mac format but I would never go back to a PC. Once you get used to it, there is nothing better! No blue screen of death or locking up, etc, etc, etc.

iMac, iPhone, and then my wife just got a Toshiba Laptop with Vista   It's already experiencing some issues with Vista.  I love the mac!!!  Ordered over the phone and it showed up a few days later.  I've had it for a year know and it rocks!!!  I can't modify pics though, I have to try fool around with it some more.

Much better to be home on the MacBook Pro:

Hardware Overview:

  Model Name:  MacBook Pro
Processor Name:  Intel Core 2 Duo
  Processor Speed:  2.5 GHz
  Number Of Processors:  1
  Total Number Of Cores:  2
  L2 Cache:   6 MB
Memory:   4 GB (I added 2GB to the stock configuration.....even these things aren't exempt from mods :))
  Bus Speed:   800 MHz
  Video:  NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT

Software:

MSOffice 2008 for Mac w/Expression Media
(My personal favorite)  TurboCAD Mac Deluxe 2D/3D
  Lots of other great stuff

iPhone 3G:  That thing rocks, but the battery drains quick when using 3G connectivity.

I agree with Robmay.  There is a learning curve, but once negotiated, there was no turning back.  Mac ROCKS!
