HD Race Tuner Models
« on: September 26, 2008, 11:23:53 PM »

Can anyone tell me what the difference is between the 32109-08A and the 32109-08 Tuner. A Harley Davidson parts man told me my 32109-08 Tuner is not compatable with my 09 SERG, and that I need the 32109-08A version.   :o

HELP??

32111-09 is the latest SEST 2.0 for the 2009 bikes from MOCO.  None of the older SERT versions will work for 2009 bikes.  MasterTune has released for 2009 bikes and Direct Link will be releasing within the next week.

I just tried to connect my Super SERT to my 2009 CVO Road Glide to no avail.  For some reason the software does not recognize the ECM, but the computer recognizes the Super SERT and the driver loads without an apparent problem.  The SERT software does not recognize that the race tuner or that a bike is connected (ignition on, run position, cables connected, etc.)

Here's what I've got:
32109-08A - Super SERT Race Tuner
32111-09 - Version 2 of the software
32184-08 - Cable Kit for SE Pro Super Tuner

I believe I have the latest software and race tuner and I have gone through the updates.  There is supposed to be an option to update the Super SERT firmware, but it has to be recognized by the software to apply the update.  I am not recognizing the bike or tuner via the software, so I can't get into the options to update the firmware.

Anyone have suggestions on what to try next?

Here's another bit of info.  I also have a 2008 bike.  I connected the Super SERT to it and it instantly recognized the bike and ECM.  It validated that I needed a firmware update and applied it no problem.  I did not apply a map to the 2008 bike with this unit, so it hasn't married them.  Just testing connectivity.

I then took the unit and connected it to my 2009 bike.  No response whatsoever.  I have verified that my software and the race tuner are working fine, so it has to be a change in the 2009 bike communication link to the race tuner.  Is it possible that they have changed the pin-outs on the 2009 ECM connector?  The race tuner must have power from the bike in order to function.  It isn't seeing anything, which is leading me to believe the cable pin-outs may be different.

Appreciate your comments and suggestions,

I think that it's married.
Download or not a map, it had printed the ECM in his memory.

Wait the comments from the other, but ...... :-\

Jacques, the race tuner will only marry a bike after it has downloaded a map to its ECM.  You can connect them to various bikes and capture data and other basic stuff.

And I'm happy to say I got it working!  The brand new cable I have had a short in it.  I was able to fix it and we're good to go.  I uploaded the basemap and the bike is running like a top.

Thanks everyone!

Jim, sounds like your upgrades are going well..... after you plow through the new soil, thanks!

I am still working through my SERT issue.

From my earlier post:
"Can anyone tell me what the difference is between the 32109-08A and the 32109-08 Tuner. A Harley Davidson parts man told me my 32109-08 Tuner is not compatable with my 09 SERG, and that I need the 32109-08A version."

My SERT is not the A model it is "32109-08", I am told the Version 2 upgrade disc is not compatable with the Tuner unless the tuner is an A model like yours.

Do you have any info with regards to this?
Does your Race Tuner show the A designation on the box after the model number 32109-08, mine does not??

I had to cancel my dyno run this past weekend as I had a bit of an oil leak..... spray.......... no, bath. Issue resolved!
Will try again.

My understanding is that the difference between the -08 & -08A is the firmware loaded on the device during manufacturer.  The -08A's have the software loaded on it that will enable it to communicate with bikes that have throttle progresstivity capabilities (Throttle by wire).  That said, however, all you need to do is update the firmware and you should be good to go.

Version 2 of the software will automatically detect that your -08 unit needs a firmware update when you launch the program and connect the -08 to the bike & computer.   I'm going to try to upload a .iso file to the web with version 2.  If you, or anyone, wants it send me a PM and I'll send you the link.

FYI, there's no risk to trying this.  If it doesn't work your unit will NOT marry the bike or even see the bike.  You can then exchange it for another one if need be.

Do you have any info with regards to this?

The box clearly shows the -08A as the part number on the A units.  The date on mine is August 08.  You have one that was in stock for awhile.  This should not be a problem though.  Try to update the firmware and see if it will communicate with your bike.  If you can pull info from the bike the -08 will work fine.  The software is what provides the throttle adjustments capabilities.  The firmware is what enables the device to talk to the bikes with throttle by wire.

I am happy to report that my 32109-08 tuner worked just fine after installing the VER 2 software. The original software disc that came with my kit was not used. The Ver 2 software takes its place. Anywho, it all went without a hitch. I loaded the software on my daughter's laptop, ran a quick update and took it to the garage. Plugged it into the SERG's ECU connection.... The ECU called for an update and "Presto" it read the bike's ECU and listed the Vin#. I haven't downloaded a map yet, but I do not believe there will be a problem.

And my local dealer said "you have to have the model A SERT to upgrade and be compatable with the 09".

To the folks on this forum that helped, THANKS, YOU WERE RGHT!!

Your dealer is a piece of work.  Don't trust anything they tell you!  The only difference between the -08 & -08A is the firmware loaded on it.  I have the -08A and still had to update the firmware for my bike.  The advantage of having the Super Tuner is that it is easy to check for updates and is designed to keep the software up to date.

Yes it seems that way,

This local dealer seems to be confused at best. However; that is not where I bought the bike.

Wild West Harley Davidson in Lubbock has been fair and honest from day one. Unfortunately they are quite a distance from me. I will return to them for future needs even though it may not be convenient.
