09 SEUC, If you own one what do you think?
« on: October 01, 2008, 08:46:25 PM »

Well after two days of ownership of a 2009 SEUC I have a few thoughts and opinions about the bike.
If you own one tell us what you think of it!

Good Stuff                                      (disclaimer, remember this is from a guy that hasn't had an Ultra in 10 years)

 1 )  Great paint!
 2 )  Very comfortable seat.
3 )  It came with a decent windshield.
4 )  Stereo sounds very good.
 5 )  XM is great.
 6 )  Handles really good.
7 )  Lean angle lets you lay it over in curves.
8 )  110 is all corked up but seems to have potential!
9 )  Power locks are cool!
10 ) 6th gear at 3K seems to be right at 80 mph. Very cool!
11 ) Did I mention it has great paint?
12 ) List to be continued............

Stuff I'm not happy with.

1 ) New frame, new tires, bike sits higher, , , , same old kick stand! The bike leans over to far on the stock stand.
2 ) New seat spreads legs out and makes being flatfooted difficult.
3 ) New seat sits well but actual material seems and appears a little cheap.
 4 ) No pipes for 09's, , , , ,,   soon I hope.
 5 ) 110 is corked up.
6 ) Motor is noisy, that could change with more exhaust sound.
7 ) A bike that MSRP's for 35,499 should have included the rear rack light!
 8 ) Won't outrun Ken's 120, well not yet anyway!
9 ) Some beach is heavy!
10 ) To be continued............

Let us know your impression about your 09 SEUC!

Nothing much new to add except my radio only reads mp3 cds when it feels like it.
My main sore points are my butt (will have to drop the rear air down to 10lbs) and not being able to firmly plant my feet on the ground.  I wouldn't dare take my hands off the controls at a red light with a passenger onboard.  I could see a passenger fending off a bee and all three of us laying on the road.

Thanks to the EPA overheating will occur after several minutes of traffic in 80ish degree weather. (waiting on an '09 power commander to fix that)

The best thing is no leakie  ;D

update:
have mine in the shop for a few add-ons that i purchased with the bike and it seems that even though the catalog says things fit they actually don't.  they've had my bike for 2 days now to do 2 hours worth of work and it is currently sitting on the rack in pieces while they fight with the MoCo about the catalog being inaccurate.  i'm gonna be really pissed if they scratch something after not being able to do any of the stuff i wanted.  this will be my last trip to the dealer unless it's a warranty issue and even then I may just eat the cost depending on what it is.  this is ridiculous, if the stuff doesn't fit, put it back they way it was and give the darn thing back to me.

I agree with all the height situation, I have had the HD Lo Profile rear shocks installed, also lowered the front with HD kit, I came off a 07 SEUC@ and it had just the rear shocks. This one rides, handles better than the 07!
Also the excessive lean on the the side stand, and the weight of the bike coming off side stand,,, it no longer leans as far as it did, IT IS MUCH BETTER than stock,, Plus it LOOKS AWESOME!!

Interesting comments.  I think the muffler problems will be addressed soon by Samson, Vance and others

Love everything about the bike.

That being said,
1  GPS will not find a satellite
2  seat is starting to show a strange ripple under the leather just on the right side of the center peice
3  the fuel tank door spring is weak and I have to put pressure on the bottom of the door to get it to open

It pains me to take it to the dealer to have these items fixed.  Too many times of picking up bikes from dealers where they put a few new scratches on it.

UPDATE!
Talked with the dealer today about how much the bike leans.
Seems there was a ride with a few dealers and Harley execs where one exec complained about the lean, and one of the riders was a woman that couldn't stand up the bike, and one was a dealer that everyone listens to. That dealer was Don Tilley. He complained the bike leaned over to far.
So guess what? There is now a kickstand upgrade, not a recall or noted defect but a upgrade. I was told the first 6 to 800 SEUC's had the old style kickstand and the new ones after that will have the upgrade. So if yours leans to far, let your dealer know and they will order the upgrade for you!

Did he know what the upgrade consisted of Chip?  Angled shim maybe?  Or complete new assembly?  Maybe even a different bike to bolt to the existing kickstand (then you could order just a new kickstand and have a spare bike!).

I agree with everything bbrown said and my one complaint I would add is I don't care for the rotor design. They put a nice chrome wheel on the bike then they cover it with a rotor that is 95% steel. In my opinion they should have opened up the design so the wheel shows through. Probably why I'll have a new set of Renegade or PM wheels / rotors on my bike before it is all said and done. I put the rear rack LED light on my bike and actually I'm a little disappointed in it as it is not as bright as I thought it would be, but it looks good. These are cosmetic things, overall I think the bike is great.

Although the spare bike idea is good the angled shim is the fix.
But we like your thinking and am glad your on our side!

I have noticed myself getting psyched up just about the time i have to pull the bike up from the stand.  You sort of have to meditate for a couple seconds.  That isn't all that bad, I think it takes more energy just to mount the thing.  I can see me splitting many an inseam with this bike :)  I guess the fact that they have changed the jiffy stand means that this bike really does sit higher.  makes me wonder if they compensated for ride height by adjusting the suspension and running boards.  my guess is these things never crossed their minds.  oh well, nothing that can't be fixed for Hundred Dollars hear and Hundred Dollars there.

I noticed all the things you guys don't like, but what about the extreme HEAT!
I wanted to get the great Blue model, but after a ride at the 105th, in 80 degrees
my wife and I agreed to keep our 06. With all the changes, the only thing we liked
was the seat. After reading the above, that isn't really any good either.
I love my 06 SEUC, no motor problems, heat I can live with, but darn, sure love
that Silver/Blue!

Did you ride on 09?  My 09 as far as the ride is way cooler to ride than my 08 ultra.  It is running hot no doubt, but from the saddle this is cooler than my previous 2000 flhrci, 2006 electra, and 2008 ultra.

The engine does run hot and I plan on an SERT to fix that, but with the new exhaust, the heat shields that come with it, rear cylinder shut-off, my experience is it is not any warmer than my twin cam 88's to ride.

No doubt it is the COOLEST ride I have ever owned.
