Any Problems with the CVO 110s?
« on: October 01, 2008, 10:07:02 PM »

Hi all.  :)
I just read an article in the American Iron magazine the addressed 09' CVO 110s having issues with over heating due to rear head gasket
blowing out. They claim HD knew about the issue while in production. The author states the compression ratio is to low at 9:3:1.

Any truth to this? I know there were issues a couple years ago. Is there (already) a thread on this this topic in the forum?

Thanks in advance.

First off welcome to the site glad to have you join us. :2vrolijk_21: When you get a chance you should go to this board - New Member Introduction and start a thread to introduce yourself.

As for your question I've highlighted in red.... there is more then one thread about the 110 motors here. ;D Matter fact there are so many I can't even begin to tell you where to search and what search criterea to use. Not to worry though you'll get plenty of replies.

At least it's not "isearch" or "iread."

ibrowse, assuming you're on the up and up here just browse the site a little.  You will find (literally) hundreds of pages and thousands of posts dealing with the various failures of the 110s.  Everything from crooked cranks at the bottom to friend ACRs on top and problems everywhere else in between.  Hope your chair is comfortable.  You'll be reading for a bit.

I also read that little sidebar in American Iron, and I truly believe it was written after a long evening of heavy imbibing of alcoholic beverages.  Compression ratio too low???  Excuse me, someone will need to 'splain how the recommended 10.5:1 ratio would run cooler than the stock 9.3:1 ratio.  Now, if they had said something about a different cam and different ignition timing maybe, assuming it would still meet emissions regulations.

the 110 simply hasn't been around long enough to determine long term reliability.  I've heard of a member or two here with 40,000 or there abouts.  I don't think anyone with that many miles did it without incidence.  There are a lot of members in the same boat as me, two seasons, just over 10,000 miles with no problems at all.  There was some finger pointing early on that perhaps the failures were due to performance enhancements.  That has since been proven false.

New Heads & Gaskets on certain serialized bikes,ACR's not relleasing on start,Running Hot out of the factory unless you install a SERT and different pipes. All in All a Great Motorcycle but you have to do some mod's to improve performance of bike. Some people on this site go even farther on mod's but I have had good success with what I have done but I am having start issues now and am getting ready to take it in again to have it troubleshooted one more time to determine what is causing the start problem.
