110" Highest Mileage
« on: October 05, 2008, 12:19:10 AM »

The Factory CVO 110" has been out for three model years now. Many of us have experienced problems, some of which have resulted in replaced engines. I am wondering who has the most miles on an original engine. Head gasket replacements are fine. It will likely be an '07 SE Ultra with silver engine tags.
I currently have 29,800.

Mine has treated me at 25000 in 4 and a half months. I have just seen the head gasket is just starting to weep a little.

25K in 4 1/2 months?  :o  Woa, you're a ridin fool bro.  I'm envious.  I wish I could get that much time off to ride.  That's averaging almost 200 miles per day.  Way to go "Iron Butt".   :2vrolijk_21:

Being that you are from Canada, is it possible that 25000 is kilometers? Or maybe a typo? 200 miles a day seems like a lot. Not doubting you, just asking.

42,546 with head gaskets & cyls replaced twice (with "A" gasket) and new motor due to valve guide dropping.  She'll be two years old on Nov 12th.  Head gasket just now starting to leak on new motor with almost 20k on it.  Scheduled for the 0905 program on Oct 15th.

Jerry, that was my point. How many miles on the engine, not the bike? I figured you had the most miles of anyone here.

20,800 on mine, In the shop for the 905 and heads were full of oil etc. Had first revised head gasket at 2800 miles due to engine upgrades then had oil seep at the bottom of rear cylinder coming back from Nelson. Not sure cause of heads being full of oil until tech has taken them apart and cleaned them. Head gasket leak this time caused from previous head work as the cylinders showed no slippage.

That does sound like a little bull chit, but you never know.
I take mine to work every day  120 mile  round trip, plus any other riding i am able to do, I take the bike everywhere.
I got rid of both my other bikes for this one about July 13,   (B DAY)
I just hit 8200, so you never know.
Dave

O yea, the rear head is seeping just a little bit, waiting for winter to do 906.
Started about 3000 or so.

The factory 110, 3000 then, then another 5500 with some top end mods, then threw it in the trash after that! 14,500 on the REAL engine rebuild til the Feuling lifter failure. But I KNOW I got it right. They could build the motors right ya know! And this thread really shouldn't even need to exist! After all, it ain't friggin rocket science! ;)

Agree, there is no reason this stuff should even be a concern.
But none the less, here we are.
It does make ya wonder, how much cost does it save them cutting corners.
Guess they dont care, all that maters is the bottom line, and no matter how many problems they have, we still keep buying, so why should they change.    right >:( >:( >:( >:(
I ride pretty hard Howie, not sure as hard as you, but I give'r hell.
so it is on my mind all the time, when is this going to let go.
The 96 on my 07 ultra went right after a Stergis ride, thats when I traded it.
Now, my 88 on the 04 wideglide, ran the chit out of it, never had a problem, .but then everything but the bottom end was s&s, that may be it.

Refreshing to see someone understand and agree! And yeap Dave, it's all about the almighty $$$ and return to shareholders. They don't really GAS about customers. We're a necessary evil to the business. Under engineer and test it, then let it get shaken out in the field by customers. Then fix to a minimum under w.....ty! So when they push it too far, they must make as minor improvement as they can get away with. But you'll never see them build with quality, reliability and longevity as the focus, ever again! That's Corporate American manufacturing in this era! Not just HD, most major American manufacturers do it the same way. Job shopping parts to cheap 3rd world nations, minimum tolerance junk built to spec by the lowest bidder, just barely good enough engineering, etc! Damn shame! I know I'd pay for known superior quality and engineering! And I do!!! Sounds like you would too! ;)
