Willing to make a weekend trip and be certain it's done right?  You're about 350 miles from one of the best Power Commander tuners anywhere in the country.  Ride to Joplin, MO for a Saturday afternoon appointment and ride home on Sunday.

See reply # 4 for details!

Concerning HDT Cycles in Dyersburg, TN.  I  have lived in D'burg for 10+ years and have not heard of HDT Cycles.  This is a rather small town and I'm only aware of two v-twin shops and neither has a dyno.

The local dealership had a Mens Night Out last night. It was was really just a Q&A session with there head mechanic and they layed on some pizza. Anyhow the topic of tuners and dynos was pretty popular. Firstly this Canadian dealership charges $600 for a SERT and charges a min. $500 to dyno a bike. How does that compare to other places?

Also the tech said regardless of what exhaust changes you make(from slip ons to complete new exhaust systems) there is no need to remap the ECM. True or false?

You can buy a SERT through Jenny S or Chicago H-D for 20% below the price listed in the Screamin Eagle catalogue. Most of the local shops charge $400 for a dyno session.

True statment if nothing other than the exhaust is changed.

From the country of high prices: We pay about 400 Euro for a SSERT or PC III, and the tuning is about 160 Euro, with baseline, prints and such.

Bribe36, do not get pulled into the Harley Lore.  The best thing is to discuss what to do with several tuners.  IMO the best thing to do is program the ECU on the bike.  There are many tuning software packages available now that will tune the ECU on the bike and done properly the heat will be reduced, there will be snap back in the throttle, No pinging and a very smooth and rideable bike.  I am a tuner and even the stock as delievered bikes form the dealers can be improved with a proper tune.  Prices vary by region so contact some tuners in your area and ask for pricing.

The biggest single effect on a bike is an exhaust change.  Any changes in exhaust flow will effect how the bike runs and rides.  I worked on this with Texas103 and ask him the effects we saw.  This will effect the AFR tuning the most, add a free flowing air cleaner and it changes it even more.  The closed loop system will compensate to some degree but will not compensate in many areas of the VE tables or fuel map.  Most customers I have want the bike tuned for all areas and not just the area that is closed loop.  This is what I have seen from many bikes I have tuned.

On the bikes with closed loop system the ECM will correct, but it will still be to the very lean 14.7 or thereabouts.  But since the O2 sensors are narrow band and the bike will not be in the closed loop mode under heavy throttle I can't help but wonder if changing the exhaust might not lean it out too much during the open loop mode.
