Cracked Tour Pak
« on: October 16, 2008, 08:46:01 PM »

Was installing my billet hinges on the Tour Pack of my 2008 CUSE3 and noticed that the foward, lower of the Tour Pack was cracked through the mounting holes.  This crack goes from the edge to aprox. 1" past the hinge.  MAN!  I can't believe this $hit!  Amybody else run into this?

I can't wait to hear what my dealer has to say about this and of course I first noticed this as I was changing the hinges so here come the "aftermarket equipment" speech.  They'll probably say it's the new hinges that caused it to crack.  I guess I'll just have to see.  They've been very cool thus far with my heated grips and such.

So has anyone else run across their Tour Pak cracking through the mounting holes of the hinges?  I'd like to know if this is an issue incase I have to argue the point with the dealer.

Thanks.

Sorry to hear about the crack.  Hopefully, you have a very good relationship with your dealership, cuz I can hear them saying already that you did it when you installed the new hinges and that warranty won't cover that.  I know most, if not all, of the dealerships around here would take that escape route immediately.

I had a crack on the lid from one of the latch rivets way back when.  Covered under warranty...

I received my tour pack for my 09 SERG and it had a crack and spiderweb in the leading edge of the lid.  The had to send back the whole thing for repaint!  I'm still pissed about getting a new part thats been repaired....

Put the original hinges back on before showing the dealer. ;)

Unfortunately that takes a rivet tool that is fairly pricey and also of a type that isn't common in everyone's toolbox.

I haven't purchased a tour pak lately, but in 04 I got three in a row with cracked lids all in exactly the same spot left rear corner, it took about two months to get things resolved, the 4th one had a small paint blemish but by that time I think I would have accepted a scratched one.

If the dealer takes the easy way out you should be able to fix with very little trouble. Is it visible from the outside or do you really have to look for it.

Exactly... Takes special rivets and rivet gun.  So this ain't happening.  The bike goes in to the dealer on Sat. for the new heads.  I'm also bumping my compression up to 9.8:1 to 10:1.

I tried to take pictures but they just don't show the crack.  It's actually right through the vertical rivit holes of the forward hinge.  It runs from the lip to aprox. 1" past the bottom of the hinge.  You have to look hard to see it.

You can see it from the inside and outside.  But it's very hard to see from the outside unless you know it's there and look for it.
