I'm rooting for the Phillies. I don't care a lick about sports anymore... Used to, but let's be honest. You're rooting for a shirt, not a team. Pat Burrell will probably not be a Phillie next year. The hero of the game last night was an Oakland A at the start of the season. So I just can't invest the time or effort to care about any sport or the teams anymore.
So Why do I say I'm rooting for the Phil's?
Tonight I will get a chance to do something that my father didn't get to do. I will sit down with my son and father and the three generations of us will watch together. And hopefully get to see our team win a championship. My grandfather died before I was born and in fact never got to see a championship from his beloved Phills. My dad and I did get to see it in '80 when I was 13. Now in '08 my 13 year old son will get to see it with my dad and I. Which is pretty cool, since both my father and I have had heart attacks, he at 44 and me at 35. We're both lucky to be alive and I will root for the Phills, not because they're from Philly like me, not because I grew up with season tickets to the first championship team, but simply because my son, my dad and I can.
And if they loose? We'll boo Santa Clause and throw a battery at someone. I love being from Philly!
Ride Safe,
