Drove a new 08 Ultra and close to purchasing a few questions
« on: October 24, 2008, 11:59:31 AM »

thought I would post a new question.  I went and drove the new 08 Ultra yesterday and I am close to purchasing it.  My questions are regarding the windscreen.  I had an Ultra with a standard windscreen and I am 5'10".  What size is the CVO standard screen?  I liked looking above the screen but above 60 esp going into a headwind I thought my teeth were going to shake out of my head.  The question has anyone tried a 9.5" recurve clearview screens and does it get rid of the buffeting?  I am knew to this sight but I figure this has been brought up a few times.  Loved the bike btw.  It is about perfect for me just want to get a not buffeted riding experience.  Thanks

I have read many good reports on the re-curve, but in my case I simply went with HD's 12 inch "stock" shield. It solved the "wind-blast" problem and I can still see over it (5'11")

Welcome from Oklahoma!

I think the 08 SEUC comes with a 10" windshield.  After buying my 08, I promptly changed the windshield to a 12".... much better IMO.

I have an '08 Duracell and still have the stock 10" screen on it.  I'm 5'8" and look over it no problem.

However, I friend of mine (who a couple of inches taller than me) has an Ultra that came with the 12" stock shield just put on an 8" recurve and loves it... With the curve you can go shorter.

I'm seriously considering going for the 8" recurve as well because the stock shield even though they call it tinted, isn't tented enough for my liking and I'll be able to see way better with the shorter one yet still avoid the wind in my face.

Hope this helps in your decision making process???

thanks for the help and I have read a couple threads here that have helped.  Sounds like a 9.5 recurve is the way to go.  Glad to have found this forums.   Have a good weekend.

drodg,

I have the Clearview 9.5 recurve on my 06' FLHTCUSE and I luv it. I am 5' 10", can see over it, and yet the recurve design deflects the wind right over the top of my head.

The Clearview shields are great.  Excellent quality.  Plus you can buff out any scratches and you can use Rain-X on them if you desire.  I bought a 9.5" for my '06 SE Ultra and it worked great but for longer trips I wanted something a little taller.  12" was too tall so I had them make me an 11".  Great people to deal with.

Thanks.

I'm riding a 08 SEUC3 and switched to the 9.5 Clearview Recurve. It allows me to see well over the top(I'm 5'10") pushes the airflow over the top of my helmet eliminating the severe buffeting I had at 60 +with the stock shield (9" measured from top of fairing) and wind noise is down so I can hear the radio much better.

This sounds like exactly what I experienced. I am 5'10"  I couldn't believe how bad the buffeting was.  I wore an open face helmet and I figured it would be maybe worse with a full face.  I am going to order a 9.5 recurve this week.  Thanks again.
