Gear Drive Cam for 06 103
« on: October 27, 2008, 11:28:44 PM »

Ok, so I am an old Chevy Race Motor Builder.  I understand motor efficiencies, I understand cams completely.  I have never been inside a HD Motor.  I want to change the cams this winter to gear drive.  I am actually quite pleased with the way the 06 SE runs.

What am I looking for?

Currently I dyno at 94hp & 101 lbft torque, the only thing I have done is SE Slip On's and the SE Air Cleaner, Race Tuner & a good Dyno guy.  What I want is the same performance or better and the same fuel economy or better.  Fuel economy needs to be maintained, I currently average 38 to 42, 2 up.  We travel too many mile to give up fuel economy for performance.  I am sitting right at 30k miles at this point.

What suggestions do you have for gear drive cams?

One thing I never see anyone talk about is degreeing in the cams in a HD, is this never done?

Thanks

Bill

Being in Reno should all but make the choice for you. Yuill Brothers locally have a very good cam set that is one of the few specifically designed for the 103.  Many here have used it.  No one has been disappointed.

Red Shift 575 cams have been used by many here.  I have no experience with them or anything else from Zippers, but folks here seem to really like them.  I know one person here who uses the Yuill Brothers cams, and he seems quite happy with them as well.
