That's only when you have a screwed oil pump and trashed lifters Howie - tell the guy the whole story.  I've been using Mobil-1 V-Twin since the first oil change, and no matter how hot the engine got it maintained the same 10+ psi at idle and 32-35 psi at 2500 rpm.  Throwing higher viscosity fresh dyno oil in there doesn't prove anything, try throwing heavier synthetic in it and compare apples to apples.

As for the FTS sentiment, I agree when we're talkin' female anatomy but not when were talkin' lubricants.  JMHO of course.

Jerry ;)

Whoa there Jerry. I told of my oil experience, which was before any engine component failure! OP dropped when hot at idle. Changed to dino and got the hot idle OP back to normal. Never had the Oil Pump fail either. It maintained correct pressure, even after the component failure. That's the whole story. Period!!! Not your version or Chip's! The cam/lifter failure was 4000 miles afterward. The dino viscosity was the same as the syncrap, with the exception of 1/2 qt of 60 wt. But I guess if it's convenient for ya, you can lump everything together to tell your synthetic story.

And yeah tell us that the possibility of the cam bearing holes being located .002"-.003" off are my fault too, or more made up stories! Just askin! ::) ;)

Chip ..... no doubt there has been some issues with the 110 cases in the early models, but I know of 3 separate instances where folks were gunshy enough about the '09 motors to have the crank runout checked prior to delivery.  2 were right at .002 and one almost .001.  Based upon my history with the tech supervisor doing the work, I would and did take the info as fact.  Not making excuses for HD and the early models, but I believe they have addressed the issue.  (If I didn't, I sure wouldn't have bought one and decided to use it as the start of a performance engine build.)

I agree Brian.
Mine has already been checked.
It's 37 days old and with 3K miles on it, I bought it to ride, not to sit there and be pretty. (but get it in the sunlight and it shines)
The point of my earlier post was that just like blaming synthetic oil, saying the cases are crap without proof and or documentation is crazy.
Brian, have you bought your 58mm TBW T/B  yet? I'm told they will be hard to get this winter.

Hey I'm getting to this party a bit late and I too use Mob 1 in all three holes on all three bikes.  After the trip to Cripple Creek with the Ultra and the gawd awful noises I heard from it I made the switch and have never looked back.

The Mob 1 is much better than the Syn 3 IMO.

As to oil pressure, I doubt any company does more R & D on things before they make a change than Porsche.  Porsche only uses Mob 1 in our cars.  0 - 50 in fact and these are dry sump engines that run at near zero oil pressure when hot and at idle.

Say what you want and for sure do what you like but for my money I'll be using the Mob 1 V Twin syn in my bikes for the foreseeable future.

Yes on the throttle body.  Having it cleaned up at the moment and will get it on prior to the first dyno run.  I've only got about 400 miles on the motor, but can hopefully bump it up to dyno time after the weekend.  With regard to the oil I think the difference of opinions can go on forever, but I base my loyalty to Mobil1 on about 15 years of using it exclusively on high performance auto and bike motors.  I do know it runs cooler and every tear down has evidenced the cleanest components that I've seen.  Really don't know anything about Syn3 as it's always out when it leaves the crate.

Who? ME!

My 58 has the roughest interior casting I could imagine.
So guess what the parts guy said, "It's rough for turbulence".
RIGHT!
The heads and the t/b will be mated and I guess my guy will do some polishing (I hope) when that happens.
Keep me informed of your progress.

Regarding the Syn3, A MOCO semi was in a local dealers lot yesterday and he delivered a skid of Syn3 as well as bikes.  The new Syn 3 boxes were wet with a leaking bottle or two of that stuff.  It's no wonder the 110's leak, the MOCO can't even keep the oil in the bottles.    ::)

Never have used the Mobil1, have always used Amsoil or Redline.  Would rather give my money to the little guys, but that's just me.

Guess I spread it around.  Mobil1 VTwin in the motor, MTL primary and Redline Heavy Shockproof in the trans ..... best combo for me.

Ditto.  Used since the first fluid change at about 500 miles and would not use anything else.

Synthetic is the only lube that can take the heat and high coefficient of friction generated in these very expensive machines.  20+ tons rotating at 5105 rpm can put a beating on bearing babbitts...

Miker I remember reading somewhere that there is not a JET engine out in the world that could not be lubricated on anything but synthetic oil

I have Amsoil in everything I own ....including the lawnmower......would not run anything else.....

I am contemplating switching to Mobil 1 just for the fact that I can go purchase it at the Wall Mart just around the corner instead of having to order so much Amsoil just to ease in the cost per unit

I have even switched out our bank of GE 18 cylinder rich diesels to a blended synthetic...Oil consumption dropped 13%, a sizable financial impact on my lube/op budget.

Power pack replacement(piston, cylinder, rod, head package) have also been reduced.  Good stuff according to my metals testing results too.

That 7FA pctured runs so hot the blade path must be cooled with 900 degree steam...

Always used AMSoil and happy with it (all three).  I'm thinking about trying Mobile1.  It appears that everyone is happy with it and easier to get rather than getting a case of AMS at a time.  Although AMSoil is cheaper per unit even with shipping.

That is why I run the M1..Just ease of procurement..The numbers are so similar between the 2 it comes down to comfort level.  :)
