New Rider with a New Ride
« on: November 09, 2008, 05:15:36 PM »

It was suggested that I begin a thread here to introduce myself.  Well here goes.  I'm 57 and the last time I rode a bike was back when I was 17 or so.  A friend had a bike (make and model long forgotten) but he let me take her out for a spin now and then.  Never had any training or an endorsement on the DL.  Just rode it around and never got caught.  Fast forward 40 years and I just won a 2008 Softail Springer CVO decked out in Inferno Orange and tons of chrome.  I bought two $20.00 raffle tickets from a couple of coworkers who are members of the Blue Knights.  Low and behold a few Sundays ago they had the drawing and I got the call, not that I believed the guy for the first 10 minutes or so.  When he started talking about taxes and dealer prep I knew it was for real.  I had to wait a few days to get all the paperwork in order and in the meantime I took the written test for the permit and registered into the last MC rider safety course for the year.  I spent last weekend "learning" to ride the right way.  I passed and went to motor vehicles on the following Monday and got my endorsement.  I was a bit apprehensive the first time out, but keep it short and simple to I got the feel of 1800cc and a brand new bike under me.  I have since taken her out three more times and have expanded my rides to about 18 to 20 miles each time.   Since the weather here in NJ is getting iffy most days I just ride as long as I can stay warm. So that's my story and I hope to have a few more miles in the logbook over the winter and looking forward to Spring a bit more than usual.

Welcome from central Maine. As I said before, winning the Springer is awesome and the color is great! Wish that I could have been as lucky. NEways, the people on this site are awesome. They are full of advise, and are willing to help, if they can, in any way (escially when it come to spending on the bike).

Welcome from Pennsylvania

I have ridden many years but I still took all of the MSF classes available. I seem to learn something everyday.

Stay safe and enjoy the new sled.

The hardest thing about winning a CVO for your first bike is how do you follow that up?
