2008 CVO Ultra Trike!
« on: November 11, 2008, 06:39:27 PM »

Walters Brothers Harley Davidson and Buell has taken a 2008 white and silver CVO Ultra and put a DFT trike kit on it. Now I'm not much of a trike guy but this thing is pretty bad ass. I'm didn't have my camara with me but I will try and get a picture later this week and post it.

Just saw this model for the 1st time today. The fit and finish were good. It looked as I expectd, like a three wheel Ultra-Classic. I hope I don't find myself having to go with a three wheeler, but I could do worse than this one - - - - looks wise. I know mechanically speaking there's better trikes out there, but how can anyone compete with H-D's worldwide network of dealers ? You buy one of these and you can pull into any H-D dealer anywhere for service.
I couldn't help but wonder though why H-D didn't dein to put a larger than stock 96" motor in it. I don't know what it weighs, but certainly looks substantial. This would have been just the platform to keep building 103 motors. Since it's not a CVO, no 110, but since it's also like nothing else in the line-up, the 103 would have been the perfect fit. Nobody on Juneau Ave ever asks my opinion on anything damnit.

wow!  I had heard that it had the 103 in it.  Can't understand that one either, BB.  They must be selling well, 'cause the local dealer has moved all of his right through so far.  spyder

Yepper, it does in fact come with a 103".  I've seen two of them now, a Red Sunglo and a Black on.  Both had the electronic reverse option.  Not bad looking rigs if I might add.

You have to wonder what this is (or will be) doing to sales at Lehman?

So I decided to check out the Lehman website and found this.

Quote
On July 22, 2008, Harley-Davidson Motor Company unveiled the Tri Glide® motorcycle
to their dealer network during their Summer Dealer Meeting in Las Vegas, Nevada. The
conversion services provided by Lehman Trikes at the Spearfish, South Dakota facility
for production of the Tri Glide® motorcycle was simultaneously announced. Harley-
Davidson Tri Glide® motorcycle production represents the fruition of the existing
supplier agreement previously announced on September 1, 2006. Lehman Trikes will
provide components, paint, and conversion services in the manufacture of the Tri Glide®
motorcycle.
Dan Patterson, CEO of Lehman Trikes stated, “Lehman is proud to have been selected as
a supplier to Harley-Davidson. Harley-Davidson is a great mentor for our development
and we are pleased to be associated with them. Tri Glide’s introduction into the trike
market provides greater legitimacy to this segment of the motorcycle industry. Lehman
believes that Harley-Davidson’s entry into the market will stimulate trike sales across the

Very interesting!

Wonder how that plays out for MV Agusta?

Harley Davidson Tri Glides are not Lehman Trkes. The previously posted letter from Lehman Maufacturing is absolutley not true. After this letter was issued the MOCO sent a letter out to their dealer network explaining this was untrue. The Harley Davidson Tri Glide uses a frame and suspension manufactured at their own facility. It is not a Ultra Classic with a trike conversion kit. This is one of the reasons for the redesign of the touring frame from the factory.

Yes they do come with a 103 from the factory(as do the police bikes) and electric reverse is an option.

I'm confused.  Why is the Tri Glide part of the redesigned touring frame?  :confused5: Was this the primary reason for the redesigned frame?   :nixweiss: spyder

Spyd,
Yes, the tri-glide is a part of the reason for the redesign.  The bolt on rear-end of the touring frame allows for future options (even wider rear tires maybe), and the attachment of the Tri-Glide rear-end.  It is my understanding that the Tour Pak and fenders are HD manufactured and the trunk and rear-end components are made by Lehman and shipped to HD for assembly.
