Spanked by a Rice Rocket
« on: November 13, 2008, 01:22:49 PM »

Last Tuesday November 4th it was in the middle of the day and I was heading on 101 West to take advantage of Manchester HD 20% off sale which is only on Tuesdays. I was travelling at 75 to 80 when I noticed a bike catching up to me rather quickly. I Knew he was going to pass me but I was going to make him work for it. It wasn't long before I had it WOT when he caught up to me, he gave me the thumbs up shifted gears and disapeared along with any dignity I had. It wasn't that he just passed me he just blew me away big time. I caught up to him at the red light at the off ramp. He lifted his visor and said your bike goes pretty good for a tank, I asked him how fast he was going. He told me when I was side by side with you my digital spedometer said 125 but when I hit 155 I shut it down. I said 155 is that it! he said hell no but I was turning here. Crap!
What the hell was I thinking! Life is just not fair, I'm not going out to play until I find another 30MPH. I did buy a nice HD crying towel at 20% off though.
I must need glasses because my spedometer was so blurry I couldn't make out much. It actually was fun. Sorry bout the spellen could't git it to wurk!

Yep, try as we might, we can't beat those Rice Rockets. I didn't really buy mine with that in mind though, I bought it for the soul it has...thats something all those Rockets just don't possess, they just try to outrun the obvious- :orange:

Try we do!!! And even succeed many times due to ability, not machine! But when ya get one that knows how to ride, not a snowball's chance in hell for ya! I've been overtaken at over 100 by a guy who caught me, then walked me on a wheelie, waved, dropped the front back down, and then he was gone! Sure made me smile though! That was on a stock 88" TC RK, so I was pretty much done at 110. But he would'a walked most any BT easily enough too. That boy could ride though!!! ;)

Yes, I know what that's like, but it's worse, getting spanked by a big old Goldwing!
My buddy does it all the time with his STOCK Wing. I too have a stock Wing, and
love doing it to all my buddies with (just like me), our optioned out SEUC's.

There's always someone faster out there.

I've been up to 155 mph back in 1986 on my Ninja 1000, I wouldn't even of know I was going that fast unless I looked at the speedo, very smooth bike.

Some of the video's on you tube of Car's walking away from hyabussa's and ninja'a at 100 mph and up is pretty impressive too, bet the rice rocket's don't feel so fast anymore after that  :o

I like watching those guys when I'm on the road.......which is about all I do.  Since I don't stand a chance against them, I just watch 'em rocket on by.  I-565 out of Huntsville is littered with Jap Jets.  I've had them come by me so fast their wind vortex will move me.

What I always enjoy is I'll be "putting" along at 75 and I'll get my doors blown off by a 'busa or something similar, and I'll eventually catch up and pass the "gentleman" while he's pulled off to the side of the road as a guest of Virginia's finest getting an invitation to return and contribute significantly to the Virginian economy.   ::) :P

Any HD rider that tries to take on a rice rocket is asking for a spanking. I had a CBRxx that in 3rd gear was way faster than any street Harley could even think about going. You need to pick your battles , the HD sounds better and looks better it's just a toad when it comes to speed. Facts are Facts. But we still love them.

I kinda look at like the young bull, old bull joke...  The crotch rockets are the young bulls, those of us aged/wisened enough to ride HD's are the old bull...

Old bulls get more.

Just my perspective...but I ride a KLR also, so I get both?   :drink:

Getting there faster only shortens the ride.

That's a good story.  I saw a jap bike on a wheelie at about 80 leading a pack of them up a bridge with a 100 ft drop.  The rider was standing on the pegs.  He was at least 10 feet tall, well above the 3ft concrete barrier he was inches away from which would have catapulted him to certain death with the slightest mistake.

You don't get that good at handling a bike unless you're constantly pushing the abilities and have wrecked a few.  That's something most of us with $30K+ bikes are unwilling to do.

2 wheels = fun

No matter how you get there.

I still have a CRF450 that I take to the motocross tracks to remind myself how old and slow I am...but it is fun
I have ridden sport bikes up to 160mph...that was fun
I ride my daughters TTR 50 around my house and look like a clown, bald huge guy on a little bike...it is fun

I ride my USE4 because it is fun...it does not remind me how old and slow I am, it is not the fastest thing on the road and I dont expect it to be, but it fits me just right.

I never met a motorcycle I did not like.
I never met a motorcycle rider who did not know how to have fun.
