Nice dull landscape you have yourself there ;-). Had a little snow here as well. Bike is safely tucked away, no riding until late January, I presume.

Ride safely,

had a heavy dump yesterday 15cm (6"inches) in our area but some parts had as much as 38cm, the met men didnt c that coming, traffic chaos cus the weather men didnt inform the police to organise the road cleaning crews early enough! traffic chaos over 200 reported accidents.  Still more to come over the next few days.......I^ve been living here 5  years now, we^ve already had more snow this winter than the whole of last winter.
Apparently theres lots more UK and US skiers making ski trips in Switzelrand bookings this winter.

HeHe!!! it's definitely coming and I'm preheating as we speak. I'll leave the system idling and maintain the slab at 40 degF til it hits. After that, it'll kick up to about 46-50 and there'll never be a drop sticking on my property! I have to enjoy it from indoors, otherwise I'll get pelted with snowballs from my jealous neighbors! :nixweiss: ;D ;) :2vrolijk_21:

From a dead start at a ground temp of, say; 28 degrees, how long does it take the system to get to 40?

Depends on the snowfall rate Don. At 2" per hour, you'll get snow accumulation til the ground gets warm enough to start melting it. At 1/2" per hour, you might be able to keep up with it. The BTU's required to keep up with snow melting is based on snowfall rate/hour and wind velocity. By having the slab above freezing BEFORE the snow starts falling, and you have enough BTU's available, you can keep up with any snowfall with the design of your system.

HeHe!!! Cool Igloo! But I can't ever make one of them here! :nixweiss: ;D

Well it's snowing like a mother now! Slab was at 45 before the storm. Everything's melting fine. It's below freezing now, and at this snowfall rate, the system's near the edge. All 6 stages of boiler are running. Boilers are WFO! Slab has dropped to 39 in the last hour. But it's holding steady now. Snow's still melting while building up quickly everywhere else. A larger plate and frame heat exchanger would have given me more BTU's to the Glycol system, but I'd have needed even more boiler HP for that. When do ya stop. So just like the bike motor's, it's all about compromise, while still trying to get the performance you're after! If we get a doozie, I'll get ya some pics later! ;)
