Changes to 08 Rinehart True Dual baffles?
« on: December 02, 2008, 12:40:34 AM »

I am hoping someone on this site can help me with a question. I have talked with several motor builders about the lack of power my 117 is producing. Of course the question of what exhaust I am using comes up. Most tell me I may be losing a little torque in the low end but overall the TD are a good pipe. Additionally all are sure the exhaust is not the problem.

However, one builder informed me the 07 - 08 Rinehart TD baffles do not function as well as the ones available for the 95 - 06 model. Additionally, the baffles are not interchangeable between the two systems. Has anyone run into this information before.

I am looking into D&D Fat Cats with the quiet big bore baffles but I love the sound of my Rineharts!

Not buying the difference, they did change in the older version from a 2 bolt baffle lock in to a 3 bolt on the endcap, and they did change the rear pipe bend due to cracking and mounted it differently along the way, but the shape and form are pretty consistent except that tehy went from having a 2 1/2 baffle to a 2 1/4.   The 2 1/2 was the original baffle delivered, but after seeing a lot of early TC 88 not making power with the larger baffle they changed to delivering the pipes with the 2 1/4 and finally did away with the 2 1/2.   Later they added in the quiet baffle at 2.0 and the peformance baffle at 2 1/4.

Have you run the bike on another dyno to be sure it is not dyno specific?  What product are you using to tune the bike?   Did they do any of the adjustments on the fly by wire that are now available in the Super Sert or the Mastertune?   Have you compared the map the tuner made for you to the factory map he started with?   Especially the timing tables?

While I own and have owned several D&D, i would rather stay with the rineharts as I prefer the sound / tone more.   FWIW:  My 07 SEUC 110 had the rinehart true duals with the 2 1/4 baffles in it and it made 127 / 122.  I have the D&D on the 05 SEEG and it is coming off next day or two.  My roadking has the old rineharts with the 2 1/2's and has no problem making power.  Michelle's 04 SEEG has 07 Rinehart True Duals with a 103 and is making 117/115.   While the 2 into 1  will bring your torque up on the low end it and the D&D is one of the better 2 into 1's I think you are barking up the wrong tree for your answer on the lower than expected numbers.

Are you absolutely sure your not sumping?

Hi Harry

Not sumping. Checked that right away.

I have not done a dyno elsewhere. However the shop dynoed a T-Man 117 build immediately after me. It made 129 hp / +130 tq. I have also had this build dynoed several times. It always comes out very close to the same give or take 1 or 2 hp/tq

I am using a SERT. I have gotten with Steve Cole on any possible issues with this product. He has seen all the map/tables and see no issues. I have been told the Super Tuner will open the throttle plate a little faster but nothing signigicant.

I agree with you on barking up the wrong tree. Now that the snow is on the ground, I'm just trying to eliminate what is working verse what isn't with this build.

Thanks for you ideas on the TD baffles!

BlackDiamond,

Just sitting here thinking about your build and was wondering has anyone done a leakdown on both cylinders?

What is Steve Coles opinion on your bike an 08 using SERT SuperSert or his Mastertune and holding the blade open as well as it being opened faster along with the ability to have the blade act 1 for 1 with the throttle and maps built specifically for the FBW?

Did compression / leak down test. No leak down problem. Compression was 185 lbs rear cylinder / 194 lbs front cylinder. This appears to be low to me!

Steve C. says the SERT should do all I need it to do. He does not believe the throttle plate will open faster with the Super Tuner vs SERT. But that was a while ago, maybe something has changed.
