Rear tire width
« on: December 07, 2008, 11:13:58 AM »

Just wondering if anybody knows if you can put a wider rear tire on without modifications.

I just saw on ebay wheels and tires for an 09 FLH with a 200 rear tire.  I know just because it is for sale does not mean it fits.

i dont know what bike u have but normally u cant, u need to install a new swing arm and u need to space to primary away from the motor so that the wider tyre sits on the centre line

Guppy,
I went from a 160/17" rim to a 180/18" on my Street Bob with no mods at all.
No where near the same bike as you, but thought the info might help you out.

It won't be a factor until I wear out the 180 anyway.  Just wondering if anyone had tried replaceing the 180 on an FLH to a 200.

I have heard of, but not seen personally, a 200 on the 09+ baggers without any mods. Before doing so however I would verify rim width and manufactures recommendations for the tire you are using.

simple things u can check ur self, its not rocket science, have a quick look at clearance between the rear 180 tyre and the drive belt! If there more than 10mm maybe its a goer, i very much doubt it.
I did replace a 130, put a 150 on a standard rim on my old dyna fxdl, no other mods. but to go bigger required the complete works to do the job properly, its possible to put up to a 180 in the old dyna swing arm but it wouldnt be in the centre.
i did eventually go for a 210
new tyre, wheel, fender, primary spacer kit, swing arm, paint, rear light metal work mods...............ouch
also fitted a new muffler cost me approx  13,000 US Dollar at 2days rates

Spoke with HOG PRO today, they said a 200 will work on a 09 bagger in the 18 but said the 17 was a safer bet.
