Welcome from a fellow NW rider.

You'll love the bike, might not even wait for break in to ride it like you stole it ::)

09 Ultra CVO Ruby Red Typhoon Maroon,

My HD buddy told me after you get done with the break in period "ride it like you stole it" ;D

TazmanTyphoon,

Congrats on the Ruby Red and welcome to the site!  Since you're a virgin,   :cherry:

That HD buddie of yours may be a bit "old school."  For your break in period, you might want to read here:
http://mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm    Their theory seems to be the more modern.  Talk to your HD mechanics too.  The break in procedure in the manual is more for product liability purposes than your engine.  They don't want you to get hurt on your new ride.  Good Luck and ride safe!!

Thanks everyone for the replies, GregKhougaz; very interesting read on break in period, I will definately look into this.
As I sit here in blowing snow and Artic air coming down from the fraser valley canyon of British Coumbia, one thought behind this purchase of a HD is the belonging or the "being part of the family"

Happy Holidays from the Northwest corner of the world....Cheers :drink:

Welcome to the site from Southern Md!  I once lived over there in "God's" country, got tired of all the rain in Oregon so I joined the navy!  I too worried about making the right choice etc.... Dont worry, the ruby is one beautiful bike! Saw it in person at my local dealer.   :2vrolijk_21: Read gregs post, not the first time I have read about a better way to break in a new bike, think I will probably go this way when mine finally gets here, till then kick back and enjoy the ride!

Welcome from Nor Cal......hope you make it to some of the GTGs that are planned (go to the Events or Event Chatter sections of the board).

Your intro was interesting.  You went straight to the top of the heap with your pick.  I've saw the red in person and I've posted here before, it's absolutely beautiful.  This bike will be heavier than your other ride so stopping will be different......you'll experience the differences on your break in period.

They've pretty much resolved most of the issues with the 08 models so I'm thinkin the 09s will be more reliable.  Nobody wants to ride their new CVO in the rain......not the first time.......or the last time.  But, the more you get caught in the rain, it becomes just a tad bit easier the next time.  I think we all (except for Dave.....Magoo) go through the same mental battle (oh man.......it's going to take six hours of detail work to get this bike clean again :nervous:) .........it's normal and you'll not be the first. :2vrolijk_21:

Look forward to the photos when you get it.

That break-in method is very similar to what Joe Minton (American Rider Magazine) recommended in an article last year.  There's a thread on break-in methods somewhere on this forum that covers all the different suggested methods but the newer recommendations seem to be in line with this one.
