First of all, thanks to LarryB for turning me on to cvoharley.com! Wow, there's a lot of info here. I've been reading like a madman and I'm... well... overwhelmed? totally stoked? Grabbing my wallet? LOL!
So, even after a lot of reading here, I'm still a bit confused about the exhaust options on the '09 SERG. I want to keep my SERG so that I can easily return it to stock coniguration if I want/need to for whatever reason. Maybe that's a little irrational, but I've takent that approach with my non-CVO Harleys and it's become a "thing" with me. So, hear me out, if you don't mined. Ultimately, with the SERG, I'm trying to protect resale value in the long run, just in case.
It seems that a lot of folks here are drilling out the cat in the stock headers and replacing the cores in the stock slip-ons with the fullsac cores. I like what I'm hearing about the results -- sound, power, etc -- and I don't mind the work involved especially since LarryB has already done his bike and offered to help out with mine. However, this obviously compromises my ability to return to stock configuration.
Also, I'm a big fan of 2-1 pipes, having used them on both of my last two Road Glides. My '05 had a D&D FatCat, my '07 has a V&H ProPipe. I love the power you get out of a 2-1. I'm starting to be a little less enamored of the sound -- it's just too loud. Can't hear the radio. Can't talk to my girl behind me. My ears hurt after a long day's ride. FWIW, my '05 Road Glide originally had RH True Duals -- WAY too loud.
Of course, the problem with 2-1 on the SERG is the cutouts for the pipes at the rear. Somebody mentioned that D&D has a left-side falsie for the FatCat, but I've yet to find a FatCat for the 09s. D&D doesn't appear to have them on their website.
One of two people here have suggested getting a set of stock '09 headers to replace the CVO headers and eliminate the cat. Nota bad idea, just not sure where to find them.
I've also been looking at the V&H Power Duals, a 2-1-2 header pipe designed for '09 dressers. At ~$520 MSRP, they aren't cheap, but they look good and I like V&H products & V&H claims horsepower gains with this header (don't they all?)... Of course, that still leaves the issue of the mufflers.
In the end, perhaps I'm overly concerned about the "return to stock config" issue. If I drill the cat and replace the muffler cores with fullsacs, it's still the stock pipes, just with different innards. So, it LOOKS stock... is that good enough?
Sorry for all the rambling... I tend to do that...
Thanks!
