Painted pieces
« on: September 07, 2005, 01:12:23 AM »

Been playing around with painting some pieces to see what it looks like with a little less chrome. So far I have painted the chrome windshield trim, tourpak mounting rack, and the passenger handrail the Starlight Black, and the shift linkage Cobalt Blue. Planning on trying a few other pieces later. Thought I would share some pics of it in case anyone else was thinking about it. Here are some pics of the windshield trim painted, the others I will post when I get the bike back & get a chance to take some more pics.

Darrell....any chance of you giving up the prep, materials and process for painting the chrome trim pieces?  Really looks great and would sure fit with a scoot I'm currently building.

Wow, that painted windshield trim looks great with that dark shield you're running - very stealth!  Can't wait to see the rest of what you've done.  I always enjoy seeing your work.  Heck with giving us the instructions, can we send stuff to you to do for us?

With the dark color that windshield trim looks great.  Saw the shifter arm in the picture with the horn cover too.

Not sure the windshield trim would be as good in a lighter or brighter color scheme though.  In the black it is outstanding though.

I don't know if there is any majic in painting the chrome pieces. I just send them to the painter I have been using for a quite awhile now. I do know that on some pieces he likes the chrome stripped off and on others he bead blasts it and uses some sort of adhesive base. On pieces like the handrail or the tailpack rack he uses a more flexible clearcoat so that it can take the flexing and abuse. If you like I can ask him for more info.

Darrell I just want to say publicly here in this forum, what I said to you on the phone yesterday and that is that I appreciate your contributions to this site.  You're on the cutting edge of modifications to the SEEG and I know first hand (from the padded locking glove box covers for the leg fairings) that you do not cut corners.  I appreciate all that you've contributed on this site!

If you get the chance, I'd like to know what product he's using for the bonding agent over the bead blasted chrome.  There used to be a product called bonding elastomer, but I can't find any in the paint supply outlets.  Thanks, any help would be appreciated.

Looks really nice as usual.  Have you thought about the gloss black lower fork legs & skirt for the front end,  am toying with the idea on my orange one.  Kind that stealthy look.

BLM777 - I will ask the painter what he is using & let you know.

The windscreen is aC ee Bailey 8" dark smoke http://www.ceebaileys.com/harley/hdlowsport.html

I don't have the paint code handy but I did post it on this forum previously. Try a search & it should come up, if not let me know & I will ask the painter for you.

Magoo I am looking at doing the fork legs & skirt using some spare components that I have but not until I try some photo editing when I get back to get an idea of what it would look like. I think it would look cool but most others I have asked prefer the chrome.

Most of these pics were posted a long time ago but were probably lost when the virus hit so here  are some more painted pieces.
