Good Luck with the surgery. Had a complete tear repaired myself 2 years ago. I'll agree with everyone else a good therapist will make all the difference. Do your exercises often. Best of luck, thoughts and prayers!

Not only luck, but God speed. And Kudos to you for having the surgery. Beagle needs this operation so badly it isn't funny and I can't get him to have it done.

Therapy is the key. Because of the good therapist I had and my determination I went from a walker to crutches to cane in only 4 weeks after total hip replacement. Eight weeks after I was doing a commercial (on a elliptical machine) for joint replacement for the hospital that did the transplant.

Start the therapy as soon as possible and do everything they tell you, and you'll be back doing what you were before (w/o pain) in no time.

Good luck with the surgery and don't rush it I agree with everybody else Therapy is the key. I had total shoulder replacement about three years ago, it's hard and very painful and I did my therapy at home, after they showed me what to do. You'll feel better very soon, but to be honest it takes about a whole year to totally get it back to normal.

Had total shoulder surgery on the right one six years ago. Before the operation I asked my doctor if I would be able to golf after having it done. He said no problem. I told him good, because I never golfed in my life. Having the left one done January 2010. That'll give me enough time to heal for bike season. Do all the therapy. Very important. THE MUFFMAN

Are they scoping it or cutting you open? I had mine with the scope and I did not even have to have therapy. The nurse told me to take the arm out of sling everyday and let it hang down and do small circles with the arm while hanging and gradually make bigger circles over time. I did and it did not feel real good at first but by the time I went back to the doctor for my first checkup he was shocked. I could raise the arm straight up and rotate it in a complete circle, and the pain I used to feel in the arm for 15 years was gone and still is gone and it's been a couple of years now. He did not send me to therapy. Don't follow my example though do what your doctor tells you!

Jamey had a surgery on his shoulder early this year, and we bought a Wii game console and a Marble Mania game for his thearpy.  Besides the mind dumbing boredom, he really found that holding his arm out and rotating ever so slightly built up the muscles that had been damaged in the surgery.  He strengthened those muscles fast and hardly seemed to notice his efforts.

What you have to do with the game, copied from their own advertising;

Using tilting Wii’s motion sensitive Wii Remote with poise and precision, players must seek to navigate their favourite cute and quirky balls, each with their own look and varying benefits, through complex 3D mazes. Therefore no complicated button combinations are necessary, the tactile controls allow players to tip and tilt their environment in all directions, even upside-down to 180 degrees.

Buffy,

Hope your surgery goes better than my wife's.

She had hers done arthroscopicly in June of this year.  The therapy and recovery went great.  She started having pain again in October.  After an MRI the surgeon said that either one of the anchors tore loose or a piece of bone has broken off that the anchor was attached to.  This time he is recommending a four inch incision to find and correct what's wrong.

She has an appointment with another surgeon for a second oppinion.
