Howie I have heard lots of stories, but what was the worse "true" story you have seen on a "kicker"?
I have never seen anyone actually get hurt, only get exhausted and frustrated.
Do you have the ability to to retard the spark to prevent kick back?
I assume most problem comes when the sparks comes before TDC and engine kicks backwards.
I never had my bike kick back enough to be anything more than uncomfortable.
I have heard stories though, never knew if they were true.

You can fake it, hit the kicker, then release it really quick and hit the starter!  :D

Worst case scenario:  ratchet slips and your leg free falls to the concrete and you jam your knee, then when your frozen in pain the engine backfires and the kicker comes back and gets you again causing a huge hematoma on the back of your leg. :'(
I've got two "Sportster Knees" from this. When I ride my chop now I have my son come over to start it the first time, and it's a one kicker after that. Doc
