Assigning Key Fobs
« on: January 02, 2009, 05:59:36 PM »

Anyone know the procedure to assign the key fobs to the alarm module on an '09?  Just picked up my bike and the system is not activated.  The owners manual says the dealer has to assign them, I hope this is not true.

Thanks in advance.

Has to be done with the dealer's Digi-Tech. Make sure you bring the bar codes with you (just makes it easier).

After thinking about this, are you sure they are not activated? The alarm chirp may just be turned off. To tell for sure, turn the ignition switch on then off and see if the lights flash. If they do, you just need to turn on the "chirpper".

Another way to find out,,,  just keep your keys about 15 feet away from the bike and then turn on the ignition.
You'll find out if it's working then.

Just don't do that without instant access to the key fob, and especially at midnight in your neighborhood, with the garage door up..... Don't ask me how I know?

System is not activated.  I already tried turning the ignition on with the key fob in the house ... turned on with no alarm.  Looks like I'm heading back to the dealer.

Time for a refund on that dealer prep for your time and aggravation should be at least 85 dollars an hour you charge them since they feel its what its worth to charge us.

ooops we're sorry shouldn't cover a blunder like this.

Have them re-do a full prep while you pace back and forth impatently grunting and cussing under your breath...watching them checking all the fluids....
I had one bike delivery experience a few years ago where they just didn't do squat, when they noticed I was not amused or at my 1st dance with HD, they got to it.

I got the 1k and 5 service comped but at the 1 k, they skipped stuff and scratched the bike...That was 4 bikes ago and none ever came from them again..I am going to have to keep the 09 because I think I am out of dealers to use in Florida... :'(

Reminds me a little of the experience when I picked up the red bike.  While doing the paperwork on the SEEG with the title clerk she rambles on about the dealer prep work.  How careful.  How this and how that.  My eyes had rolled up to pursue the initial progress of a ballistic arc no one else but me could see so I'm not sure exactly what she was saying.  But she was obviously very proud.

The (then) service manager had already told me about the efforts they'd put in.  Test ride.  Detail.  The whole deal.  The sales guy who tried to explain to me that "MSRP was different on the CVO bikes" had emphasized the bike would be full of fuel and ready to go and that the service staff would show me "how to work it all."

After screwing around for 90 minutes first with the title clerk then just waiting for someone to tell me to get on my bike and ride away I'm finally told the detail is done and I can go.  The bike is very clean.  It also shows 1.7 miles on the odometer (hell of a test ride), it runs out of gas before I make it 10 blocks to the closest fuel stop and the clutch master cylinder almost immediately start dropping fluid out the seal.

Heluva test ride and check out.  They had at least turned the tour pak around the right direction and bolted it down.  So it was a model assembly effort.

Don, the eye twitch I get from that story tells me it is not dealer specific but some corporate doctrine...
I don't understand it, I just don't...

My 09 was at least quick...sign check, load bike, Schmoops shops around...45 minutes...And I really think this time, is the last time I ever buy a new bike from a HD dealer again.

At lease my pursuit of the OBW SERG Classic will prolly be a private sale...someday...I hope for better treatment at Indi....errrr, nevermind..  ???  ::)

I understand.  Feel so gratified when we read here the experiences of someone who is dealt with appropriately or even in a truly superior fashion by the MoCo or their local service department.  Then feel that same eye twitch when it's remembered that getting that kind of service and/or support is such a crap shoot.

Like you that history has totally destroyed any desire I might have for a new bike.  I just don't want to put the money in the MoCo's pocket and the service department has proved repeatedly they are not up to the task of having earned my loyalty.  It is, literally and figuratively, cheaper and safer to buy tools as needed and do nearly everything oneself than it is trust the local talent.

The MoCo is too far removed from their consumers and too unwilling to engage them.  That aforementioned local talent, while not malicious in their error, is just too often careless and inept.  It makes for a poor combination.  It makes you enjoy the hell out of your old bikes and spend weekends enjoying being hands on with them.  For that I guess we owe them all a thank you.

There's no friggin way that should happen. They're supposed to go over the whole bike with you on delivery, show you how everything works including the alarm, and go thru the procedure to deactivate it without the FOB too. There's abosolutely NO EXCUSE for this one. You guys are being way too easy on this dealer!!! You take it from here as to what you want to get out of em, but that place blows for skimping on a newly delivered CVO!!! I'd never go back to that place!!! >:( >:( >:( STD! STD! STD!!!
