This pic is from under the tour pak and will show where the optional mounting holes are.

Notice that four "side" bolts have an extra hole in front of each of them.  I've tried to highlight the alternative mount points with a blue arrow.  Those are the mounting holes commonly used to mount the paks when they're delivered to us.  Changing to the "rear" holes as you see the bolts intalled through here moves the pak back just over an inch.

Also note that the rear center bolt need not be removed to make the change.  Leave it in there to keep that U bracket in place against the tour pak while you're messing with all the other hardware.

TwoLane,

Mine looks exactly like yours.   On the bottom though I am already in the furthest back position of the 2 choices you have.   I would like 1 to 1 1/2 inches more space on the tour pack.   that means either drilling in the mount 4 new holes not really interested in that due to weakening of that structure that the tour pack sits on or drilling 5 holes in the steel plate and tour pack in front of the existing ones.

Makes the kuriakyin mount more palatable.

That's too bad Harry.  Was hoping you'd have the easy option still available.  I suppose if I were going to drill one or the other it'd probably be the rack rather than pak and mount plate.  Easier to get to and you don't have to take anything apart.  But like you I'd think pretty strongly about the relocation kit from Kuryakyn instead of drilling it out.

Wonder how far rearward you can sling the tour pak without moving weight back so far as to negatively affect CG and handling?

Center of Gravity and sturdiness of the plate with wind and weight in the tour pack are what concern me.   There is a reason they didnt give you 4 adjustable plates whether presumed or real.

I need to think on it a bit more.

Saw a pretty neat idea over on HTT one time. A guy took four pieces of L shaped 1" aluminum about 8 inches long or so, mounted two to the tour pack and two to the rack, then you could slide the tour pack back and forth until you find the right spot and drill holes in the alum brackets where you want them.  Good idea and it can't be seen. Think he said it cost him less than 5 bucks.  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

My seat came off my road king and the tan brings out the gold trim so well - it just looks great.

You could always purchase the old style detachable bracket(53107-96).  I noticed a difference when removing my seat after I switched to the new style bracket.

Any idea how much of a difference it would be that the backrest would move back?

I am trying to get about 2 inches back give or take and I also found out that part number is no longer valid for order :*(

The part number you enter (53107-96) has been discontinued from our supplier and we are sold out.   surprise surprise.

Measured the old detatachable unit, you get an extra inch.  Going to remove the new mount this weekend and take pictures and post.
