What Tires do you like
« on: September 12, 2005, 10:07:23 PM »

I will be needing to replace my tires again and this time before I do I would like to know what most of you guys roll with?  [smiley=laugh.gif]

I value all the usefull knowledge from you guys, and before I toss the dealer my $$$ for the Dunlops again, I might be missing out on a better ride [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif]

GET ON AND GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO [smiley=bigok.gif]

10,000 miles on my stock tires, most of it two up. Probably another 1,000 or so on the rear if I wanted to push it. 'Spect I'll replace w/ the same.

All,

I have always replaced the OEM Dunlops with the ME880 Metzelers. I find they  handle better in the rain, and in any grooves, plus are not affected by "tar snakes".

I run metzler as well and while you don't get quite the mileage,  got a little over 9000 miles on the last 2 rear tires on the seeg.  I think I got about 12000 on the stock dunlop the metzler handle better in all conditions in my opion.

I too have made the switch to the ME-880's and really like the feel, especially in the wet.
The first one went 9,500 ! since then I have been watching the pressures more closely, and have noticed the the wear seems to be better on the new one. Several folks said to run them with a little more pressure, ie 40 front 44 rear. I notice a few more road wrinkles, but sure do like the way it corners.

I doubt I will go back to the Dunlops.

Our bikes use the 85 aspect ratio tire on the rear. Metzler doesn't make that size. What size Metzler are you guys running?

Pressure seem a little low I think metzler says 44psi in the front and 46psi in the rear.  i personally run 46psi in the front and 50psi in the rear and have no issues.  And the load range is better than a dunlop.

Anybody have the answer to mobe's question about the size?  Are you guys running the narrower size that was used up to '03?

The original Dunlops are MU85B16 - 77H, diameter 25.71 inches, width 5.51 inches, max load 908 lbs.

The recommended replacement from Metzeler (as of last year) is the ME880, 140/90B16 - 77H, diameter 26.18 inches, width 5.75 inches, max load 908 lbs.

Make sure you get the correct load range, they have many other sizes available that do not have this high of a load rating.

The new rear I've got setting in the corner waiting for install is  140/90B16M/C REINFTL 77H ME880.  Have seen that one on another bike and it's the tire recommended by the manufacturer (not on their website yet though, had to give them a call).

BTW - The 140/90B16 Metzeler will cause your speedo to read 2.6 mph slow compared to the stock Dunlop.
