Oil pump Failure
« on: September 13, 2005, 08:34:09 AM »

Well it has been exactly one year since the compensator nut came loose and the whole motor on my king had to be rebuilt. Now my oil pump stopped working while I was on the highway and I could hear the damage happen, it is at the dealer now and I should know today what happened and how bad it is. Has anyone else had anything like this happen?  Or am I the lucky one.

DROC,
Sorry to hear about the problems you've run into. How many miles did you have on the bike when the compensator problem reared its ugly head and when the oil pump malfunctioned?

ALLPORK,
I had a whopping 3100mi  when I had the compensator nut problem and now have 5900mi for the oil pump issue. Yah I ride my scoot pretty hard but not any harder than the people I ride with and there still riding today. I say the extended warr. is the way to go it paid for itself last time I had a prob.

Well I just got off the phone with my dealer and the oil pump failed,  and as a result metal was everywhere .  So I need a new crankshaft, rods, pistons. the jugs need to be honed .05 over, rocker arms, and lifters and thats just to start. I am going to make sure they replace everything that may have touched the metallic oil. All I can say is extended warrenty is a lifesaver.   [smiley=drink.gif]

Twolane,  Well I am going to Las Vegas on monday so they can have my bike for a week or so. As for the new engine I will definatly push for that  it would make me feel better since this will be the second crank replacement in less than 6000mi. they have not givin me all the details yet. If we rebuild this motor I most likly will give it a shot of power.

GRC,
The more I think about this issue the more I agree with you . I am heading to the Dealer today and will start demanding a crate motor. This is not the same dealer who rebuilt the motor last year as I had problems with the dealer I got the bike from.  I now deal with a great shop,  Heritage H-D in Concord NH. It is not there fault this happened and they are treating me great.(so far)

FYI, The fix is going to be covered by warrenty. [smiley=laugh.gif] While there going to split the cases I am going to add a few mods. 113 flywheel, 103+ heads.Crane roller rockers with needle bearings in the shaft, 113 jugs, and pistons, SE primary chain, rocker supports, and the new 264 camshaft. all with free labor since they can just put in the new parts in place of the stock ones.  It should be done in a week, I will let you know how it goes after the break in. When increasing the HP/TQ much over 100/100 on 2003 and newer, it may be prudent to upgrade the sprocket shaft bearing while the cases are split. Zippers has been doing a lot of these on performance TC's. http://www.zippersperformance.com/catalogue/showproduct.asp?cat=850&prod=2065
