i was watchin the live pics on the news last nite, the bravery of all envolved is to be commended. Everybody was real lucky to be alive, although i hope those injured have a safe recovery, i heard one report that one lady lost a leg. Being in the frozen water they wouldnt have had long to survive, they were very lucky the river feries wee so quick on the scene. The hero pilot was named as Chesley B "Sully" Sullenberger III.

The local news anchor was corrected on air this morning.......that wasn't a crash, that was a water landing and they train for those.

The pilots wife (he's from Nor Cal) was interviewed.  She said that he told her that most pilots go through their whole career without an emergency landing and even fewer are successful.  Their thanking God (as they should be!).

Just happy it turned out this way for all involved and related. :2vrolijk_21:

Absolutely amazing airmanship-total concentration in flying the airplane regardless of all the chaos and extraordinary short time to make decisions and execute the basic premise....fly the airplane!

Congratulations to Captain Sullenberger on an outstanding piece of airmanship! Well Done sir!

Thanks for the link, amazing to watch the time count on the second video and realize that they were coming out of the plane within 30 seconds of landing and the first ferry arriving within 3 minutes.

Everyone is to be commended on their actions from the pilot, crew and passengers to all of the reponders.  God Bless them all.

The second video (USCG) - when you see the first ferry it is passing the Intrepid Carrier (Air Space Museum). The ferry docks were on eiter side of the river just a very short distance downstream from the ditch location, and the plane drifted right to them.

All the ferries were docked at teh time (unusual as they are very busy commuter ferries).

Couldn't have happened in a better place as far as water landings go.

Did you see the guy walk out on the right wing and fall in?
