Regarding the tour pack hinges, someone from the MOCO must check in here on occasion.

It could be my fault.  I mentioned their lack of providing a replacement part for the hinges in a survey I had sent in...but that wasn't all that long ago and I don't see anyway they could have acted that quickly.  They had to have these hinges in process for a while in order to be producing them now and for them to have made it to their pring catalog.  I still think the hinges we have are nicer, but given the alternative of buying them for half the price, I would have likely gone with Harley's version.

No need to worry, however I can see Eglide Goodies being a tad disappointed because of Harley's new offering:

Check out the new 25284-08.  It's a complete kit for cam plate, oil pump and the new chain tensioner swap out.  Compared to Feuling or other alternatives for just pump and cam plate it's a bargain too.

That is actually quite a buy - good pricing...

And we see, once more, how advantageous the group buy actually was. Not to mention tax and shipping! Great effort Don!

I am happy that now the hinges and the bike are finally in the same time universe and I can have them installed. If I can find someone able to use a dremel.

No dremel needed.  Drill the rivets out.  It's extremely easy.  You can't go wrong unless you go nuts and go with a bit that's way too big.  I started small and kept moving up in size of bits until I found the size that would do it quickly.  After you are done, you still need to make the holes a little bigger with yet a larger bit size...that's why I say you can't really have a problem, since you will need to go bigger after the rivets are out anyway.  I think a dremel would make this a real pain...drilling was quick and easy.

Sorry to get you all worked up. The dremel thing is a tongue-in-cheek reference to my inability to operate any tools other than two-sided tape. I have, however, a friend who is really proficient and has installed the hinges on his bike. Since I helped him get his, he has the obligation to get mine on the bike ;-)

Not worked up.  Just thought I was saving you the same headache I was about to go through when someone steered me right.  I was going to use the dremel and someone was kind enough to remind me that I'm not real proficient with the dremel.  Anyway, having 2 of you there is almost a necessity to hold the lid in place while the other gets the screws started.  Time for me to go to bed now, before everyone else starts waking up.  Good luck with the hinges.  They look great installed.

with the tensioner upgrade - it appears that the cams and inside chain remain the same as is - but the tensioner is replaced [new tensioner running on the old inside chain] and some years get a new outside chain plus tensioners and other years just get the new tensioner - but all of them get the new pump.

this is really interesting as many have said that keeping the used chain is a good idea since is already polished from running on the old tensioners. and the plate looks like the SE plate...

all for just over the price of the plate

this sure ups the value of the old bikes - i got rid of my 2000 mostly due to the pita id been having with the tensioners - it had 57k on it and was due for the second go round....

Was speaking of this with another member on the phone yesterday.  While I'm satisfied having just bit the proverbial bullet and installing gear drive, they are quiet on a straight crank and will last basically forever, having this kit option at the time would have been tempting.  A lot less cost.

It does temper the anxiety of obtaining the classic serg and then dealing with icky shoes or gear cash...mm fi is bad enough...bout time.

That's a concern I've never been one to worry about too much.  The Marelli bikes are different.  And their quirks have to be handled differently.  But if familiarity is gained with them different isn't necessarily more difficult; just different.

Had a couple of Marelli Road Kings and now this 00 Road Glide.  Chasing the idle with the mixture idle screws in combination was a frustrating 20 minutes or half hour after changing to the slightly larger throttle body on the SERG.  But the beasties aren't that tough overall.

I'm actually far more concerned about parts availability from HD over time than I am over their tuning and driveability.  Have collected most of two sets of used spares for very little expense though.  So covered there for (hopefully) quite some time.
