Saddlebag Guards
« on: February 10, 2009, 03:03:19 PM »

Just in case you're interested in installing the saddlebag guard rails, there's a slight mod you'll need to make if you want to keep the filler strips. The HD 2009 catalog indicates, pg 405, Item H, the rails will fit the 09 CVO but it does not say you need to remove the fillers.

You'll need to take the fillers out and modify them.  A mechanic in the local HD shop had the idea of using the Street Glide antenna hole size and rubber grommets.  They did it at the shop and it worked real well.  Just remember to measure twice and cut once!

One other tid-bit.  If you want a happy passenger - put on a set of the Kuryakan Passenger Pegs. You won't reget it. This pic shows them retracted.

Do those fit with the stock passenger brackets/floorboards ?

Great pics, thanks

Ohio Dave,

Yes.  The passenger brackets/floorboards are stock.  Just make sure you order the pegs for a CVO.

Very nice pictures, and great job on the mod.  One question though.  Obviously there was some drilling and filing involve.  Do you know if the raw metal resulting from the mod was treated, so it wouldn't rust?  Those grommets aren't going to stop rust, so if the bare metal hasn't been treated, might be a good idea to seal it with something before corrosion sets in and you start noticing bubbling paint around the holes.  Just a suggestion.

Hey Ultrafun, can you post a picture of the front of your bike, I was looking to add the visors as well and I see you have them on your bike.

Thanks

HML,

You are correct.  I learned that the hard way on one of my old bikes, and yes it rusted.  On this job, the holes were drilled and deburred, then primed, painted and let dry.  Hopefully this will hold up for years to come.

Thanks!

Brinks,

I'll snap some pics of the front visors this weekend and post. I like the look.

Now I need to install the slash cut BUB-7's to keep the design going (plus get rid of the metric sound) once I figure out which ECM to install.  It's a bummer not being a mechanic.

Ride safe!

WHEW!  I know that's a huge relief.  I see stuff like that happen all the time, and it is so easy to prevent.  Doggone awesome job on the mod.  Looks GR8!
