First ride first impressions
« on: February 28, 2004, 07:39:56 PM »

Weather was great for a ride today, took the new bike out for a spin WOW handles great. I am being cautious on the break in and doing by the book. The one thing that I did notice is that the bike seems a little weak is that just me? Maybe with the break in that will change. The pipes are definatley real quiet I had thes on my RK and took them off. Do you think the sound gets better with break in? I would like to keep this stock but I think the stage 1 is going to have to be done along with some pipes.

The sound of the exhaust only gets deeper, whether it's a stock or aftermarket.  As for the break-in period all i'll say is 50-100 miles.   That's all it needs-period, there's engineering reports on "how long does it take" for the motor to become broken in.  Although,  do what your HD dealership/manual tells us to do.  I am just telling you this when you suddenly look down and see your at 70mph@3200.  IT'S OK-DON'T PANIC..Welcome to the CVO brotherhood.

Serk Thanks for the reply.

New bike is great since this is my first brand new Harley, all others were used. Does the shifting get a little softer seems like its kind of tight as opposed to my RK, and also its a bear to find nuetral. Dealer says to roll froward or backwards to find nuetral npt rev the engine. Any thoughts?

The SEEG owner's manual says not to exceed 3500rpm in any gear.  That's close to 80mph in fifth.  Plenty of fun for a break-in period.  There's always the philosophy that says, "break it in the way you're gonna ride it".  However, I'm playing this one by the book.  Did notice that the shifts were a little tight.  Hope this smooths out as more miles are put on the bike.  Put 150 miles on it Saturday, and I must say the bike handles superbly; specifically, going into turns at high speeds. I've owned a Fatboy and a RK, and the SEEG is clealry the better of the three.

Great to hear the thoughts on the handling. I too have owned the Fatboy and RK, of the two I thought the Fatboy actually handled better than the Road King. Look forward to the ride in a month or two!

For those Neutral anti-finders out there...mine was a bear to find at first...but now I have 250 miles on the bike, and it has gotten much easier to find. I think it must have had to wear a bit.

absolutely, it takes a couple hundred for the general breal-in on gears, shifting, exc.  At 1500-2000 bike should shift into gear like a dream....wet that is

Maybe its just me or because I have been riding an Ultra the last couple of years, But. Has anyone noticed when hitting a bump it feels like a hard tail. It feels like the rear shock bottoms out. I've put about 1100 miles on mine and that is the only thing I don't like. I filled the air shock to spec. If no body else notices it I'll have it checked out.

It is the low-profile shocks...they ride OK except in hard juts...but it's worth it for the handling.  I loved my Road King shocks...but it always looked like it sat too high.  I love this one better...but yes, I agree with the hardtail feel at times.

Sure not the ride that my Ultra Classics had (either of them) but a better handling bike, with the stiffer suspension.

Picked my bike up and finally got out of the dealership right about 11:00 a.m. this morning.  It was in the 70's so I was in levis and t-shirt.  Hooked up with a partner and we rode up into the mountains.....the gold country.  Got into the twiesties and had a great day.  Even caught some live blues for a little while, in one of the foot hill towns.

I put a total of 144 miles on my bike today and will put more on, tomorrow.  Very happy with it, it got a lot of attention.  The hardest part was riding so slow and keeping the rpms down below the 3,000 mark.  Also, it seems like the top part of the backrest is pitched to far forward and pressed on my spine, causing some soreness this evening.  Other than that, it was all good.

Remember JCZ, after 100 miles that motor needs to be worked.  Their is proven literature that says ride it "normal" and it lasts longer and is stronger.  i will send the documents on it  ..... best of luck with the new seeg  [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif]
