I've never purchased an extended warranty. Do many of you feel it's really worth it? I've always thought that after a year or two most things should be ok to go. If not and it's out of warranty I'd probably fix it myself. What are your thoughts on it? Do enough of you think it's worth it?
My thoughts on it are kind of like any other insurance-if everyone needed it, it would cost a lot more.
The MoCo, the Dealer, and the company that administers the agreement all make a tidy profit on the ESP. So to answer your question,
on average no it isn't worth it, just like any other ESP. However, just like any other "insurance", what may be a losing proposition for one person can be a real windfall for someone else. In the immortal words of Harry Callahan, "Do you feel lucky?".
I've never purchased an ESP, and in all but one instance over 30 years I've come out ahead by not purchasing one. However, if I were to purchase one of the MoCo's current offerings I would be sorely tempted to buy the ESP. Harley's quality has taken a major turn for the worse, and it wouldn't take much to create a $1200 plus repair bill. I doubt I would go for the so-called 7 year (5 years actual) plan, but adding 2 years beyond the 2 year factory warranty might be a good idea.
