Thanks for noticing that noone really ever answered the important part of that question.  Nobody actually came out and told me who Chip was either, but I did make that guess correctly.  I saw the pics of Silver-Black's bike with the 2-1 and figured if it wasn't him, he still had the pipes anyway.  I did send him a PM earlier, so I assume he'll get back to me with the answer.  I thought that there was some slight mod that needed done.  If not, why would they have come out with an 09 specific part number.  They do show a new 09 part number on their website, but I'm wondering if any are actually available.  If I can make the 08 fit, I think I've found myself a brand new one for under $400, which would be a pretty good deal and I'd obviously rather go that route if it's not much of a headache to get it to work.  Thanks again for paying attention.

I remember speaking with Chip both before and after the install.  Before the install we were both wondering if the mounting bracket would work as is or if anything else signficant might be an issue.  After the install I don't remember him describing anything that really bit him hard as part of the install.  Don't trust my memory on work I didn't do to someone else's bike though.  Chip will see the thread again and nail down the details.

I think something is coming back to me now.  He must have made a post about installing those.  I just looked at the photo of his bike, and it looks like at least one thing that had to be done was cut out an area on the black plastic heat deflector below the seat.  If I could find that post he made, it would probably answer my questions...like how did he cut that out and make it look like it's supposed to be that way?

My apologies for appearing rude yesterday, Sir.  I honestly was trying to help and keep things lighthearted and informal.  My intentions were genuine, however my execution was flawed.  I'll work on that.

In response to your passage above, perhaps this will help:  http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=29972.msg486727#msg486727

Quite alright!  I didn't take anything to be rude whatsoever.  All I saw was some good-natured ribbing.  Thanks.

Henry

You had me rolling with your post yesterday.
**********************************

Now for abastarsmda,

09 touring frames are wider in the swingarm area than previous models.

Pre 09 Fatcats to be fitted to 09 bikes have to be modified to fit.

The problem area is at the rear axle area. The axle hits the pipe.

It's my understanding the the new Fatcats have a dimpled area at the axle for clearance.

So on mine I took a 2lb. hammer and a wood block shaped to the curve/dimple I wanted and wailed the hell out of the backside of the muffler.

D&D makes a fine pipe, even after beating on mine with the hammer the chrome was still intact and not even scarred. (thanks to pine wood block)

So abastarsmda there you have it.

Just trying to have a little fun.  With the events of the past two weeks we've had around here........it felt great to laugh until my belly hurt.  You and most others know I meant no harm.  We gotta have fun.  As much as I love this site for technical content, I also consider it a place to unwind.  Unfortunately I haven't quite mastered the art of "unwinding" without causing trouble.  I spend my working and academic hours on guard for my poor communication skills (which directly contradicts the "A" I'm maintaining in this term's Managerial Communication course), so I tend to loosen the reigns a bit when I login here.  Apparently I should tighten up just a little.  It's been brought to my attention before, but I slip occasionally.  I dunno.  Perhaps I care too much..........or not.   :nixweiss:

Also, I got my hammer from Jim. (Screamin)

He's got a shop full of BFH's and he loaned me this one.

Just remember, as your about to use that hammer the quality of stroke is also important!

Good luck!

Thanks.  I knew there had to be something else that needed done, but I wasn't expecting it to be banging with a hammer.  So what you are saying is my choices to upgrade the exhaust on the 09 are with a saw or a hammer.  :ROFLOL:  That just cracks me up.  It sounds like a simple enough fix though.  Nobody will ever see that side of the pipe anyway.  I'm not sure where you came up with the curved pine block, but I'm sure I could come up with something that will do that job.  Now I have to see if I can get my hands on those pipes.

As far as knowing who is who on here by their first names... :nixweiss:  Thanks Chip and Henry.  (ya see, I'm already practicing for next time).

Just saw this post about the sledge hammer.  Funny thing...last night I was at Harbor Freight with a buddy and I had a sledge hammer in my hand and my friend jokingly said, "What do you need that for...to fix your bike?"  I said "Nah, I guess not" and put it back down.

So, as with so many things in life, a BFH is the proper solution :2vrolijk_21: .

In our family, we refer to the use of a BFH as "Impact Revitalization" and acknowledge that, at some times, this is the only solution!

Rick I firmly believe that places like Tufts or Georgetown or Harvard should have entire sections for the BFH and the gas torch.  For the diplomats in training.  These two tools can solve all the worlds problems.

Dave

Glad to be of help.
Mount the pipe and then install (or try to) the muffler, then you will see the area than needs a little dimpling.

Check with Eric at www.hdpipes.com He beat everyone's price for me several months ago.

JW

I just spoke with Eric at www.hdpipes.com and ordered the D&D Boss Fatcat from him.  I got the new ones that are made to fit the 09's.  He saved me about $200 vs buying direct from D&D.  Now I have to sit and wait for them to show up though.  Hopefully it won't take too long.

There's a guy on the site names "Chip"?
