J&S Motorcycle Lift & 2009 Frame
« on: February 25, 2009, 10:59:29 PM »

Does anyone know if the J&S Jacks Big Wheel Motorcycle Lift fits well with the new frames on the 2009 SEUC (Ruby)?
Are any adapters needed?

I do not have my bike just yet, and have not had a lift before.  I want one, but do not need the bigger ride on lifts.  Mainly for cleaning, oil changes, adding parts you've all helped me spend $$ on, storage, etc.  Also like the idea of saving my back.  :2vrolijk_21: :bananarock:

I've seen past threads on these lifts and like what I hear about them.  The videos on their website make them look very stable and easily moveable loaded with a bike.

TIA,

I bought a Pitbull MC lift for my 05 SEEG four years ago. Somewhat heavy, but really well made with heavy duty wheels and all moving joints and wheels have fittings to grease them which will help prevent rust.

i have been using an aluminum jack on my 05 SEEG for almost four years. just took delivery of an 09 UCSE4 and it did not work. started up and then wanted to tip over! not cool. went to a bike show a couple of weeks ago and talked with the pit bull guys. just waiting for it to come in. well worth the 400 bucks. remember, you have an expensive bike, don't put it on a cheap lift!!!!!!!! :orange:

Couldn't agree more about getting a reliable jack that can carry the load safely. Pitbull is excellent and they also make a shop dolly on wheels  if you want to get it off the floor during the winter, although I am not sure if keeping it suspended all winter would cause any suspension problems in the spring, but it sure would make it easier to move around the garage.

I have the red Sears lift and it works just fine with my 09 SEUG.  I'm not really happy with using the lift for oil changes because it makes it difficult to get to the drain plugs and to position a catch pan under the stream.  I'm thinking of buying a wheel chock or a flip-stand or a scissor jack for oil changes.

I have the J&S for my 09 SERG and it fits/works fine.  Should be same for yours.  After 3 uses, the hydrualic jack sprung an oil leak.  was replaced no questions asked, but it made me wonder.

Tough to beat the Pit Bull lift, very strong, stable and well built. The wheels allow for easy movement with bike on it.

i think the bottom line will always be, whatever works for you and your confortable with. my better half had bought me the lift from SEARS and was a little upset with the pit bull rep, for saying your putting a 40K bike on a $100 lift. so when i got home WE put it under the bike and SHE DIDN'T feel confortabole. she said the Pit Bull was allot wider and made the bike rest better. case closed. she won and i got a new lift :pepper: :pineapple: :apple: :jalapeno:

The grease fittings sound like a definite plus  :2vrolijk_21:

I have no idea about the suspension, may be a good question for the service techs/manager.  :-\

The J&S lift offered an optional oil drain insert that sat in the middle of the lift, and the oil would run down off of that angled piece into your drain pan on the floor (I least that's how I took that it worked) 8)

Kinda makes ya go hmmmm :nervous:  .  Good to know that they stood behind it and replaced it.  Any problems since then and how many uses since then?  :confused5:

Sounds like your better half is a definite keeper! :orange: :2vrolijk_21:

Thanks for all the input! :2vrolijk_21:

I've seen many good comments on both products.  Has anyone needed service from the Pitbull folks, and if so, how did that go?

I think the pitbull is about $80 more than the J&S, and the pitbull goes up $70 on March 1 (at least their site says there's currently a $70 off sale until Feb. 28, but you never know what to believe or what's coming next or if that Feb. 28 date will automatically change to Mar. 31).

I did email J&S to make sure they said it fits the '09 frame and they said it does.  A little more research and time to pull the trigger.  I'm supposed to finally get my bike by the end of next week  :huepfenjump3: :huepfenjump3: :apple: :orange: :bananarock:

No problems with the Pitbull including the hydraulic jack and mine spends winters in an unheated garage. No leaks, no issues. Encourage you to pull the trigger before their price increase.

Just pulled the trigger on the pitbull.  Added the 360 degree turntable as well.
In the end I liked the higher lift height (25" vs. 18"); the grease fittings; it seemed a little wider although both did not give those specs.  And the turntable (while more $$) sealed the deal.  Able to work on the bike without the lift in the way on the right side.  It can be added to older models (just an FYI) but it is pricey.  I called pitbull and their sale does go off after 2/28/09.  Saved $90 total on both.  Nice folks.

Thanks for everyones input!  :2vrolijk_21: :bananarock:

Hey all,
I got my Pitbull lift yesterday and got my bike home today. :2vrolijk_21:
I've never had a lift before and the bike is $$$$$.  A little anxious about my first use of the lift.  I've read all the instructions, seen their videos...I just don't wanna drop my new Ruby.   :nervous:

Any advice or words of encouragement??
TIA

Just make sure that you get the lift under both bottom frame rails and try not to have it rest on the cast joint parts to which the downtubes and bottom rails are welded. Then just take it slow on the first few lifts until you get comfortable doing it. Also, make sure that you do not hit kickstand with the jack. When I used it to lift my 05 SEEG, I could not retract the kickstand while the bike was on the jack.

Many thanks for the advice  :2vrolijk_21:  I will definitely be real careful.

First use went real well.  Put tie-downs on with soft ties just to be more comfortable about it.  First mod was to put chrome rider and passenger footboard extenders on...now that would have been a chore to get at the front bolts of the rider's without the lift.  Paid for itself already  :2vrolijk_21:   Not being able to tuck up the kickstand might be a good thing so a guy doesn't forget to put it back down and watch the bike go over as the lift goes down   That would ruin an otherwise good day.
