DOC,
Sorry to hear about the problems!!!  I have the same issue.  26 miles on the bike and the tranny let go.
Dealer found 4th gear had broken teeth.  Waiting on new tranny to arrive.

Rep was there yesterday to look the bike over, He decided to try the SE compensator sprocket in the bike, should be here today. Starter still hangs up and he states it needs time to break in, never heard of that! But its still under warrinty and I need to ride. So far new clutch hub, primary chain, chain tensioner, new trans, down time almost 1 1/2 months. Hope they get it this time.  Doc

Sounds like this "Rep" is about as brain dead as the average dealership.  Let us think about that statement:  New starter needs time to break in, so it's OK for it to hang up.  If that was true, which it definitely is not, every brand new Harley would have the starter hanging up until it was broken in.  Therefore, I would have to assume that my bikes came with used starters from the factory, since I never had that issue.  Now I'm pissed, they obviously pawned off used parts on me for new prices.

If I remember the chronology correctly, so far they have replaced the clutch basket and ring gear, as well as the starter.  If the starter drive is still hanging up, and there is no electrical cause, a little common sense would indicate that they now need to look at the mounting of the starter to make sure everything is machined correctly and the starter drive is properly aligned to the ring gear (angle, depth of engagement, etc.).  Or they could just wait for it to "break in" and hope it creates it's own clearances as it wears.

From what I have read here, it seems that not many 09 are having problems. Just my luck.  I did call HD CS and they say they are aware of the problem with my bike and will resolve the problem, we will see.  Doc

May be time for a buy back and start with a new FLTRSE3. Let Harley continue with their science project elsewhere.  :nixweiss: :nixweiss:

Well at around 27,000 miles after a new crank, cyl's and valve job my 07 started making noise in primary and dealer checked everything and inner primary bearing was shot maybee from messing with on previvous work. I like how harley sells bikes and when they break they feel no responabilly to give you a bike to ride while they dilly dally around fixing or talking about fixing. RIDE SAFE JDO

Everything they have tried has not fixed this problem I have, the area rep is due back to ride it again wed. Another week gone ,on week 5 now ! Seems no one can fix it. I wonder what happens now?  I was told by the area rep to ride it till it really lets go, but I ride with my wife on board and feel this bike is unsafe to ride. What are they thinking?  Just venting. Thanks Doc

Doc,

Does the dealership where they are storing your bike have a dyno????  Let them put it on the dyno until it lets go!!!  I agree with you  it's unsafe to ride.  If the tranny should let go and lock up that's trouble!!
                             Good Luck.

Going on the dyno for the rep. today. Lets hope he finds what it is. I have 42 years as a MC mechanic and have never heard one like this before, that I could not find the problem right away, but then again they will not let me touch it with out voiding my warrinty.  Doc
