Guardian Bells
« on: March 01, 2009, 12:53:25 AM »

Anyone have a guardian bell on their bike. Where did you mount it? How? What's the story behind it (not the legend...How you got it)?

I got mine for the SERG from my sister as a Christmas present, surprised me as she knows nothing about bikes!  She got me a coffee mug, HD throw, think it was just sitting at the register so she added it to her purchase! lol

trot,
I believe that's the name for the small brass or silver bells given to bikers to ward off bad road luck and act as a guardian for the rider's well being. I was told the bell should come from someone that cares about you rather than  buying it for your self.

oh, you're supposed to mount this on the bike? Darn, my bad. I've been using it to get another beer brought to me. has taken years to train trixy to fetch me things, started with a big bell and that worked ok butit kept leaving markes on her head when I rang it. so now I find this little bell than works great, I keep tied around my neck so i have it when I need it.

The bell on my shovel was given to me by my Mother who HATES all motorcycles (she was a nurse). My Sportster has had three (she looses them) all from an old friend. The 06 roadglide got her bell from another good friend.
My new SERG doesn't have one yet. I wonder if it's fair to transfer from the 06 to the new girl?
As the legend goes it should be low on the bike, the closer to the road the better it works, so at the highway peg mount on the sporty and the mount tab for the crash (?) bar on the others.

I've had pretty good longevity hanging mine from the front floorboard mount.

Mrs R gave me two, had them on my Road King. When I sold it and got the CVO put them on it and the new owner of the RK had the regulator go out on the way home. I felt bad about it but they say there is no warning when one goes it just goes. Guess he should have put his own bell on before he left.

Buddy of mine did that on his Electra Glide Classic. Has a major dent in the top of the fender.

the ultra has it hanging from the left crash bar above the clamp on the lower fairing, secured with a black tie wrap. the sportster has it hanging from the cross member below the voltage regulator.
they were both given to me by my wife to ward off road gremlins.
you know what, i ain't seen a gremlin since i put em on. :orange:

A good buddy of mine gave me one when I got my first harley ('07 Ultra).  I was clueless to what it was for, but after he splained it to me, and since he took the trouble to get it, I put it on.  Attached it to a cross member in the front frame with a zip-tie after I wrapped the bell's hoop with electrical tape.  Made darn sure it wouldn't hit fender, etc.  I plan on putting the same bell on my '09 SEUC.
