Sounds like you two handled this very well. Always have to expect the unexpected on a bike.

Glad that this was an "almost" story. I hate the other kind.

Ride safe!

I am glad to read that y'all are doing fine -- just reminds us of all the cages out there and always being aware. I wish you all the best as you keep on riding together.

Glad to hear you two are o.k., I know how bad that rattles your nerves, it can take sometime and  some deep breathing to calm down.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm really glad you two made it in one piece. Guardian angel on duty! As the riding season is approaching in my area, your post helped me to put into perspective the complacency it is so easy to get into on a beautiful day, with the wind in your face, and not a worry in the world (except for the other drivers). The other thing I keep in mind up here is that when the bikes finally get back on the road in this area, cage drivers don't expect us and don't look for us (of course many never do) because they haven't seen us for the past several months. My point is that we are now approaching the time to be most aware of our surroundings while riding our CVOs. Ride safe!

JC,

Sounds like you two did all the right things a rider could do given what happened. I am so glad the two of you are okay. And you are right. All it takes is one mental lapse for something bad to happen.

Goosebumps and anger. Thats what I feel. So glad you both are ok and so mad about bad drivers. Doesn't matter how right we are on our rides, one idiot being wrong negates that. Again Glad it turned out positive.

Not taking anything from Mark.....you'll see he knows his stuff.  But I don't know if anything we learned in his training came into play here......this was at high speed.  I'm just dam glad Terrie had ABS.  I hate to think what would have happened had she not had it.

As it were, I think I was on the verge of locking it up......probably as close as I could be without actually locking it up.  It all races through your mind in a split second or two "O.K. JC don't lock up the rear......is he going to stop (it sure looked like it) or is he going to keep going.....he's sure not picking up any speed, trying to get out of the way......WTF is he doing?......I sure hope he's gonna keep going cause I'm going this way (as I let off the brakes a little and swerve sharply to the left).  And I'm so greatful that I practice counter steering at freeway speeds often!

Again, my purpose is to just raise it to everybody's conscious level as they get ready for the new riding season. :2vrolijk_21:

Glad you two are ok. Too many times, too many times. We all know that we can't rely on "the other guy" doing what he's supposed to do. Angels, brother angels. glad they like us bikers. Lost my cool one time and chased the moron down and when I pulled up next to his driver's side, with his window open, I went to shoot a chewing gum packed loogie in the window and learned that you can't spit when your visors down. Debated with myself all the way home on just who the real moron was.Lesson learned.

Although I've been riding for over 30 years, I'm new to CVO's.  Over the last year my wife (Maureen) has got into riding herself and this time riding with her has been one of the best motorcycle years of my life.  I've been so pleased that as well as my FLHTCUSE4, I've got her a Rocker C as a gift.

The thing is, as well as my own riding, I feel a lot of responsibility for my wife's safety - trying to keep our small team happy and looking forward. An incident like this brings home to you our vulnerability.

Anyway, I hope you and Terrie are okay - take care from over the Pond.

I'm glad you and Terrie made that one safe and sound. Your story is exactly why i want to get my wife Carrie on a bike with ABS. I bet ya it help out Terrie big time. I've seen Carrie lock up her rear brakes one time when a group of riders we were with got on the binders hard because a car made a left turn in front of the lead. Her rear end started to cross up, she realzed what was happening and let go of the break and the bike straighted right out. I was behind her and was scared chitless, i thought she was going to lay it down. ABS would have prevented that. I shared your story with Carrie and now she is thinking we should trade in the 04 Screaming Eagle for an ABS bike. Glad Terrie is safe and thanks for posting the experience.  :2vrolijk_21:
