I just did this install on mine yesterday, and your tutorial really helped!  I kind of panicked when the new hinges didn't quite fit because the lugs were bigger than the original holes - I thought maybe I bought the wrong set.  But when I reread your post I saw that you had to drill out your holes to 3/16" as well so I recovered.  I also had to drill out all of the screw holes just a little to make the screws fit thru easier.
Also if you're doing this make sure you put a towel or some cover on the left side saddlebag lid when you drill the rivets out of the lower part of the hinges to keep the hinge from falling free and putting a nice nick in your saddlebag lid.  Don't ask me how I know this!! :-[

Happy to hear my post was of some help to you. When I look back at the original hinges I still find it hard to believe the MoCo would build these bikes with them :nixweiss:

Or you could just take the left saddlebag off    :nixweiss:

Put mine on yesterday...thanks for the photos, it helped knowing you had to rream out the holes to 3/16".  All in all...pretty easy job.  Would have helped to have an extra hand to assist, but got her done any way!

Had this thread bookmarked while I waited on my tour pak to arrive.  It finally came in last week and I put the new hinges on today.

Thanks to RidinRuby for the "how to".  The note about putting the piece of old hinge between the drill bit and the weather strip really saved my bacon.   :2vrolijk_21:  If I hadn't read this first I wouldn't have thought to do that and would have trashed that weather strip.  :'(

The only small thing I would add here is that it was a lot easier for me to attach the new hinges to the lid first and then secure them to the bottom part of the pak.  I tried it the other way around first and couldn't get things lined up so well.

Again... thanks for the post.

Great post and helpful pics. I made this mod to the FLHTC I just traded in. Nice upgrade at a very reasonable cost.

One suggestion. I've heard many complaints that the rivets spin when using a drill. I used a Dremel tool to grind down the rivet edge. Works very well. Just my $0.02 worth.

Good job Chris  :2vrolijk_21:  Now I'm going to have to go out and put Melanie's on since she's probably seen this. Nice pictorial.

That's cuz Gary, firedood, is my mentor and his have remained uninstalled for 2 years. Like a fine wine, they need to remain in a cool, dark place for a period of time.  :)
