Don,
Nice to hear you know of Dick Hilferty. He's never been the type of guy to blow his own horn about what he knows (plenty). We discovered his genius in the very early days of Zipper's (early 80's) and have relied on his knowledge and input since then. Sometime in the late 80's, Dick decided to get out of the business altogether; we were able to persuade him to stay in it with us as a partner. Dick would do the design work, we would test; he would do the actual lobe grinding and after heat treat we would do all of the final cylindrical grinding and finish work. It was done this way for the last 12 or so years. Last year he decided he'd done enough and still had some other things he wanted to do while he still could, so we moved the Berco grinders, masters and tooling in-house for full production here at Zipper's (under his watchful eye). He is still doing design work (we are testing a new grind now), and we are in touch with him regularly. He's a pretty amazing fellow, with lots of energy (he's 74, I'm 47 and I think he can outlast me!).
Just giving credit where it's due..........JK
PS Jim, glad it's working out for you.....we knew it would.......
