To finish my plan, I also called Roger at "Extreme Measures" and spoke with him about painting the Hog Pod. $100 plus shipping. I thought about and I think I may go another route. My 07 has the leather covered tour pack and I love all the leather accents on the bike including the dash pad. I'm going to look into getting the hog pod covered in leather to maintain the leather look I like. I'll post photo's too if/when the install is complete.

PC

Glad to hear everything is working out for you.

I'll also look forward to hearing & seeing how the leather idea works.
Please let us know what kind of cost is involved.

Good luck with your project and get ready to ROCK!

Just had an 8 speaker surround sound system by Hogtunes installed and it's amazing!

Great people to do business with... Excellent service and super product!

I thought I would share a "before" (in the trailer on the way for install) photo
and an "after" (back home after install) photo.

The clarity of sound is amazing and I can't wait to roll down the highway with the likes of Frampton, ZZ Top or Zeppelin to keep me company.

Here's the before...

What does the speaker pod look like before it was painted?  Is it a black finished surface or a primered surface or what?

The HOG POD comes matching the stock inner fairing (black mat finish) found on all Electra Glide models.

So it looks like it all boils down to HogTunes, Hawg Wired, or JM speakers being the 3 best choices out there for the bike.  I wonder how many times I will end up on each of their sites until I make a decision.  Probably quite a few, since I doubt that I will get around to changing them until next winter.  Hopefully, by then, I'll have had a chance to meet up with some of the folks from here on the forum and get a first hand listen to the different setups and help me make a choice.

JUST SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT!

It appears to me that if the Hog Tunes package is used, you will still have the stock amp mounted under the tour pak making it difficult to make the tour pak detachable. IMHO I believe that if you are looking to make the tour pak detachable and achieve excellent sound quality with the tour pak mounted or detached, the Hawg Wired PSC/CX/CX(V) "Four In The Face" package is the way to go. The way I wired my setup is so that I have four speakers running with the tour pak detached, and six speakers running with the tour pak mounted.

If you have no desire to make the tour pak detachable the Hog Tunes system appears to make a lot of sense.

JUST SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT!

It appears to me that if the Hog Tunes package is used, you not only will have the stock amp mounted under the tour pak, you will also have an amp (hog tunes) mounted in the tour pak to drive the speakers that will be mounted in your converted lowers thus making it virtually impossible to make the tour pak detachable.

If you have no desire to make the tour pak detachable the Hog Wired system appears to make a lot of sense.

But obviously, there is a huge price difference to start with.  Hawg Wired $1630 vs Hog Tunes $550 to do "Four in the Face" vs 6 upgraded speakers with the Hog Tunes (this is ignoring the speaker pod).  I don't know how the install goes, but I assumed the additional amp for the Hog Tunes went inside the fairing, not another amp in or under the tour pack.  Other than I think the Ultras look real nice without the tour pack, I personally have no desire to remove mine.  I never found reason to remove my detachable tour pack on my last bike and there was "zero" wiring involved in that one.  The last sentence of your post made no sense...did you mean Hog Tunes or Hawg Wired...you have a combination of the 2 names in that sentence.  Like I said earlier, I think I will have to hear all 3 systems to judge the merits of one over the other.  Given no discernable differences, I would have to go the less expensive route.  At 50 years old, I can tell when the music is distorted going down the road, but I am far from a sound aficionado and I don't think I can distinguish fine differences in tonal quality from one system to another.  I assume the Hawg Wired system is a superior product, however my question is whether my ears will hear almost 3 times the price difference.  Just something else to think about!

EXCUSE ME for my combination of manufacturers previously!

If you have no desire to make the tour pak detachable the Hog Tunes system appears to make a lot of sense because their wiring setup requires the amp located under the tour pak to remain in use and the price is considerably lower than the Hawg Wired system. I have used Hog Tunes speakers in the past and they produced a considerable upgrade in sound. If however you want to make the tour pak detachable, the Hawg Wired system is the only way to go IMHO.

Actually, you make a good point regarding the tourpack.  If you want to detach it, then their system probably doesn't make any sense at all.  I didn't mean to sound abrasive...I just have a few too many beers in me tonight...which is why I'm heading to bed now.  My Pitt Panthers lost tonight and I'm bummed.

You make a good point regarding detaching the TP.

To clarify, the HOG TUNES set up comes with an additional amp that drives the speakers in the lowers...
This additional amp is installed in the fairing just like the HAWG WIRED set up.

The HOG POD speakers are wired along with the front and rear speakers.

PEZ from HOG TUNES informed me last fall (when I was originally looking at upgrading with his product) that he is aware of the desire of many to make the TP detachable and plans to produce a new amp to handle this which is why I held off until recently to purchase.

Unfortunately PEZ has not finished developing this new amp yet, (most likely due to the sales success of the HOG POD) and now says that it won't be until next fall or winter before the new amp will be ready for sale.

I couldn't wait any longer to upgrade my system and with the introduction of the new HOG POD in February I was anxious to get rockin' so I went for it now as is.

With the excellent pricing PEZ offers for HOG TUNES I figured that this set up will do for now and when the new amp is available allowing me to make my TP detachable I'll simply swap out the amp for his new one.

Hope this helps to clarify things.

Grizzly

PS - I cranked it up to half volume.  Can you hear it now?
