Heated seat question
« on: April 19, 2009, 09:56:26 PM »

While out on a ride with my 06 SEUC I decided to try out the heated seat.  I did not seem to notice any warming of my buns.  I tried the up position as well as the down position on both switches.  It was warm at best and could have been motor heat.  I am new to this feature on a bike but the car gets warm enough where i have to turn it down or off. I checked the under seat wires and they are all plugged in. so I am not sure what else to check.

Tough to answer your question having not felt what you felt. Never had any problems with the heating of the seat, yes, gets too hot on high. Did you have the ACC switch in the on position? The grips on mine worked through that switch, not sure if the seat did also. Even in the on position I sometimes had to rock it on/off/on a couple times for the grips to work. The best thing I did was move that seat to my garage rafters, man we hated the uncomfortable thing.

I have notice the same thing but I also know in the winter time when it is really cold outside it seems to work great as I think it is on a thermostat or something...

There is two plugs under the seat one is operated by the Accessory Switch the other is where the seat is suppose to be plug in
This has power as long as the key is on.
So if it was plugged into the Accessory plug then the Accessory switch would have to be on for it to work.

I still think that there is a thermostat in mine or the damn thing has a mind of its own.

LOL I have a Corbin but have not installed it.  I did not switch the acc. switch but the grips work.

My seat works great, may be plugged in wrong under the seat. Mine didn't work at first, took it to the dealer, they had it for a few minutes and then it was working like a charm.
HI is too hot normally, but might be nice if you riding in 20 degree weather with minimal undergarmets. Low is perfect for those cool late night rides, not too hot, not too cold.
Really nice to have if you got a sweetheart on the back and its late and chilly. I speak from experience there.  :2vrolijk_21:

The seat will turn off after 1.5 hours of use. That, however, might only be true for the new 2009 hammock seat.

My seat works great. 35 degrees out and my butt is nice and warm. I wish after 1.5 hours it did not shut off. However it gives you a reason to stop and let the seat reset.

Thanks guys I will check and see if the wires are correct and I will check the acc. switch to see if it does anything there too.

Does the bike need to be running to use the seat?

The bike does not need to be running, however the seat takes some time to heat up, and if the bike is not running the seat may overload the electrical system. It's best to try it when riding. Keep the ACC switch on "on" and give it some five to eight minutes. If this works for you, you may either leave it like that (using the ACC switch to activate the heated seat) or have the seat's plug connected to the other output under the seat, which is always live.
Regardless of your choice, you would still need to turn the seat on high, low, or off via the buttons on the left side of the seat.

Ride safely,
Louis

My seat and grips have nothing to do with ACC  switch.
If the seat is working, it is hard to believe you would not know. That thing can get smoking hot at times.

Was not sure about the acc. switch but it was worth a shot. Any ways how long does it take to feel the heat?  How do I know that the two plugs are connected to the right seat connections?

I have noticed that it takes about 15 Min's for my seat to get hot. And I agree with some of the others on HI it gets way to hot and on low you may not even know it is on. Sad that they did not put a rheostat in the seat like they did in the hand grips to provide a little better choice..

Was not sure about the acc. switch but it was worth a shot. Any ways how long does it take to feel the heat?  How do I know that the two plugs are connected to the right seat connections?
Many of them come through connected to ACC circuit.  Under the seat you'll find your seat plugged into a wiring harness. If you trace that harness back a few inches you'll find another socket.  One of the plugs is the ignition circuit and the other is ACC circuit.  The bike ignition does have to be on for either of the these circuits to be energized.  With the ignition on, flip the ACC switch on the fairing cap to ON (Green light lit), then flip the front seat switch up (HIGH).  After 5 minutes you should feel heat.  If you don't something's not connected right or the seat is broken.

Presuming you do have heat, flip the ACC switch off but leave the seat on.  Give it about 10 minutes to cool.  If it doesn't cool then your connected to the ignition circuit.  If it does cool your connected the ACC circuit.  By switching the plug you can attach it to the ignition circuit.  The purpose of the ACC circuit for this application is to prevent bumping it on with your leg and getting an accidental case of hot a$$.

Ride Safe,
J-Carr
