Increased crankcase pressure - caused by your now more efficient oil pump -

Solve one problem - cause another.

Actually - my oil pressure was quite good considering what the pump looked like.

Well I cleaned the bike again ............................
This time I had oil all over the rotor and brake pads, and of course the tire, wheel, seat, saddlebags etc.

Starting to wonder where the "upgrade" is with the new SE pump.

Seems I remember several other folks having a "blow-out" with the dipstick after installing Fueling pumps a couple years back.  Increasing the scavenging volume could pressurize the sump I suppose, but that's why there is a vent.  Are we saying that the stock vent is too small?

I don't go to the extreme of using solvent on my dipstick and housing, but I do wipe both surfaces with a dry cloth after checking the oil.  Haven't had any dipstick issues since doing that and running a pint low, but I still have the stock pump installed.  I guess I'll see if the late model pump makes a difference when I install the new plate and cams next month.  Maybe I'll have to install a safety strap to contain the wayward parts. :nixweiss:         ;)

Jerry

There's a rider with a 117cid build similar to mine in this area who does just that.  He has a clamp that fits around the dipstick and the spout, and when tightened, will not allow the dipstick to blow out.  I've also seen folks drill and tap a hole through the spout and use a setscrew to keep the dipstick from departing the motorcycle.  There are plenty of mousetraps, but I'm partial to the Baker spout.

Same thing happened to me outside of Hartford, CT this time last year.  Huge mess.  Oil burned onto the muffler.  Not much fun at all to clean up a mess like that.  It'll breathe through the heads if you make the dipstick stay in place.

Easy Off Oven Cleaner

directions: spray liberally to all surfaces. Rinse off with water. It may require high pressure to remove.

Yeah - I got that too.

So......Brian (hogasm) probably has the best remedy for this condition, with a few "slight" adjustments.   :huepfenlol2: :huepfenlol2: :huepfenlol2:

I used Easy Off oven cleaner to get the burned on crud off the muffler as well as either an SOS or Brillo pad........can't remember which exactly now......anyway.......I sprayed some Easy Off onto a paper towel, smeared it onto the stained area of the muffler and allowed it to soak for about 15 minutes while occasionally smearing on some more Easy Off.  Then I scrubbed off the tough stuff with the scouring pad, rinsed obsessively.........sans power washer   :huepfenlol2:........and everything was as good as new.

Wonder if someone should let the newbies know that Easy Off is not the way to clean a motor.
OK, I will.
Easy Off will remove marks on chrome but will destroy the coating on motors.
Be careful using it!

Spraying the stuff on the pipes is no big deal, but how do you get the damned things in the oven?  I don't have a commercial oven, and the one in the kitchen just isn't big enough. :confused5:

Duane,

Have you checked for sumping ?

Have you tried just as a test to vent the motor from the crank case to the atomosphere?   This may reduce your crank case pressure.   Also are you getting airation in the oil (lots of bubbles)?

If using Easy Off stay away from Paint as suggest above.    Never dull for boats works great for me when I get oil on the pipes just takes a bit more elbow grease.

No - how do you do that?

Have you tried just as a test to vent the motor from the crank case to the atmosphere?

Does riding for 6-7 miles with no dipstick count?

At least up to 25-2600 RPM there is no oil coming out of the hole. Seems to only be an issue at high RPM's
First time was over 5000, 2nd time not sure, but I WOT'd it getting on the the highway this time from a higher gear. Was probably in 3rd when I hit it.

Also are you getting aeration in the oil (lots of bubbles)?

None noticed - but each time I didn't have a dipstick to check it with  :nixweiss:

get oil on the pipes just takes a bit more elbow grease.

Today's project.

Duane,

Drain the crank and see how much oil is in there.  Only time I have run into this is sumping and too much oil in the system.   My question for you would be if you drained all the oil and only put in 4 quarts instead of the 5 1/4 you could put in can you blow the dipstick out?
