odd engine noise and odor
« on: April 30, 2009, 05:19:43 PM »

so I pull into my drive and put the bike in neutral to open the door...when I put it back in gear I hear this sound like a sucking vacuum cleaner, or maybe a slight rubbing noise sounds like it is coming from the front of the engine???

any ideas?  kind of a crappy feeling on a brand new '09 cuse4 with only 350 miles... :confused5: :confused5:

could this possibly be caused by the engine temperature management system...I also smelled a funny smell after putting the bike away.

the other thing I was thinking is that what would happen if one of the acr's opened up with the engine running?

literally just grasping at straws to understand this noise

Very possible (and likely) that what you experienced was the heat management system.  It sounds strange and will create a peculiar odor on occassion.  Next time it occurs, try opening the throttle a little and holding it.  That should cause the engine to resume normal operation.  If you still have the same sound, then it's time to start looking elsewhere.

If your bike went into heat management mode that quickly after coming to a stop, it sounds like you're running way too hot.  Have you done any tuning, or still running stock?

no it is still stock...I do not usually modify them until after the 1000 mile service.  also coming home I have to drive down many city streets which are stop and go, so it may have been right on the edge of turning on and did not until it was idling for about 3 minutes or so in my driveway.

Sounds like heat management kicked in, and that funny smell might be expelled air from the dead rear cylinder.  I've been to your dealership in Groton, but have no idea how good their service department is.  Might want to ask them.  Sure is some mighty fine riding up there in CT.  I had a blast up there this time last year.

not that good, but it is what I am stuck with...they are the reason I have an '09 because they couldn't fix my '07 s oil pressure problem...on the other hand maybe the service department is in league with their sales department...hmmmmmmmmmmmm :confused5:

Well, the suggestion was offered from the warranty perspective.  Certainly don't expect them to know anything.   :huepfenlol2: :huepfenjump3: :huepfenlol2: :huepfenjump3: :huepfenlol2:
